Red on handle and base came off with first washing,

After receiving the pitcher and removing it from its packaging, we washed it gently as directed in the included instructions. The red decorative plastic film around the base and on the handle immediately began to flake off.

While this is one gorgeous pitcher, the red paint came off the first time I washed it even though I washed it in cold water. So disappointing! I sent it back and refused to try another one. Why repeat a mistake!

Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 2-1/2-Quart Glass Water Pitcher
I purchased the Pfaltzgraff Winterberry 2 1/2 Qt Glass Water Pitcher as a holiday gift for a family member. I believe this item has defective paint as the "holly berry" paint flecks began to move around freely when the pitcher was filled with ice water. Additionally, when hand washing the pitcher after use, the red paint from the base and handle began to peel off in chips and sheets. Over the past few years, I've purchased many items from this Pfaltzgraff set (typically directly from a Macy's or JC Penny retail store) including the dessert plates and wine glasses which are decorated in the same manner as this pitcher. Since I've handled the stemware and plates before, I'm familiar with the quality of the hand etched and painted items. After use, I've always hand washed (in mild Dawn dish detergent and warm water) and hand dried with a standard dish towel. On Christmas day, the gift was unwrapped and hand washed (in the manner above) so that could be used at dinner. During dinner, I noticed the holly berries were starting to run down the side of the pitcher due to the condensation of the ice water on the outside of the pitcher. I emptied it out and let it stand dry as to not do further damage to the pitcher. With the holly berries back in place (I used my finger to slide them back to where they were), I again hand washed the pitcher. When I began to dry it, the red paint from the base and handle began to peel off onto the towel and came off to the touch of the palm of my hand. I've reordered the product from Amazon and hope that I just received a defective unit and that this next one is better. I'll update this post again once I've put the pitcher through the same tests.
