When we moved into our new house in 2010, an earlier version of this product was installed in the main-floor bathroom. It looked relatively new but I don't know how long it had been installed. Water leaked from under the hot-water handle when it was turned on, and rust stains started to develop at the base of both handles. We had other priorities, but after a year of use the hot water handle seized. This forced the issue.

Disassembly revealed that the ceramic and/or plastic portion of the valve assembly in the hot-water handle was cracked, perhaps due to heavy-handed improper installation. But certain components internal to the handles had rusted to dust, making removal a serious hassle. This was especially true for the hot-water handle where the leak had been, but was also true for the cold-water handle. So many components had been indirectly damaged by this corrosion that replacement of the entire faucet was necessary.

Despite this we selected this latest version of the same product as a replacement because its style suited the sink well. This was probably not the best decision. Inspection of the components revealed that the design of the new faucet was subject to many of the same problems the old faucet had experienced. A large washer at the base of each handle assembly appears to be made of regular steel rather than stainless steel, which begs for trouble. (You can discern this by using a magnet. If the metal is highly magnetic it's probably regular steel, if it's weakly magnetic it's probably low-quality stainless, and if it's non-magnetic it's probably high-quality stainless.) It was this same washer in the old faucet that had literally rusted out of existence. Any little leak in the handle assembly will likely bring about this rust.
