Pflueger Medalist 1400,

This review is from: Pflueger Medalist 1400 Series Fly Reels (Up to 7 Fly Line) (Sports)
This reel I bought is a 1494, it's a very old design, and looks great on older rods. It's similar to the ones used in the movie "A River Runs Through It." It's made in China.
Pfluegers used to be set up for right-hand retrieve from the factory, but mine was set up for left hand retrieve, which most people use today. It's easy to switch it over, and instructions for doing so are in the pamphlet with the reel. I should mention that the 1492 Pflueger, smaller than this one, is right hand retrieve only. Drag is positive and easy to adjust. Over-all, it's a good reel at a good price. I collect reels and have quite a few. This one is not a collector reel, it's a fishing reel. Slightly heavy by today's standards.

1492 reel,
This review is from: Pflueger Medalist 1400 Series Fly Reels (Up to 7 Fly Line) (Sports)
I just purchased a 1492 reel yesterday. when I began putting on a 4 wt. fly line today about half way through the clicking stopped. I opened the spool and found that the triangle piece that holds the wire that makes the clicker broke and fell off. I guess the Made In China factor doesn't pay off again The warranty requires postage and $6.50 and the receipt. That's about 30% of what the reel cost me. What a bust.Feb 16, 2-11 Buy American
