This review is from: Lucian, Volume I. Phalaris. Hippias or The Bath. Dionysus. Heracles. Amber or The Swans. The Fly. Nigrinus. Demonax. The Hall. My Native Land. Octogenarians. A True Story. Slander. The Consonants at Law. The Carousal (Symposium) or The Lapiths (Loeb Classical Library No. 14) (Hardcover)
This is an entertaining part of the library Lucian was a public speaker and would make a living writing and giving speeches on a variety of topics. Wile not a philosopher himself, he did write a lot about them. His story The Carousal about a group of philosophers that meet together at a wedding dinner party make the book worth it alone. A lot of humor does not age all that well This it a definite exception. It's one of the funniest things I've read recently. I highly recommend this book for anyone with an interest in classical literature or Greek philosophy .
