You get to choose from 5 different Vietnam War choppers to fly on missions. The graphics are wonderfully done and enhance your game playing experience. You start off in a level called Transport in early 1960's. You are to supply weapons and supplies to the military bases by flying a Choctaw H-34. The other game levels can be accessed by touching the left and right ARROW KEYS but the other levels are locked.

I could fly the helicopter but I had no idea of where to fly to at first. I quickly found a base with helipads and landed but nothing happened. When I went flying onwards, looking for the mission, text popped up and said, "Where you going? Return to mission immediately!" There are no maps to show you where your mission objective is and once I got to the base I had no indication that I was in the right place.

The controls seemed slow to respond and I found that by pausing you could adjust the control sensitivity. By placing your finger onto the screen and swiping left or right and up and down you could angle the chopper and look around. You should keep looking and watch out for other aircraft traffic. Red arrows indicate the direction you should be flying in and the number shown with the arrow seems to indicate the distance to the target in meters. Land on the helipad, reduce your engine speed and wait for the cargo to unload (I could never get the cargo unloaded). A countdown timer is supposed to start on the screen above the Chopper. It is supposed to indicate when to leave after the cargo is unloaded. Fly to the next waypoint by following the red arrows. You are returning to the ship and land on the deck, slow and easy! Move up to the marked landing spot and slow down the engines, congratulations your first mission is complete.

After over an hour I could not get the cargo to unload. This game is very nice but the lack of instructions will make your gaming experience frustrating. This is a 5 star game with a ZERO star rating for a training guide. I give it a 3 star rating and if I could get some instruction details I would give it a 5 star rating.

You must fly the mission by going to and reaching each red arrow. The number shown with the arrow is the distance to it in meters. Once you reach it then a new target arrow will appear. If you properly pass through each arrow then your cargo will unload when you land and you can complete the mission. I kept trying to take a short cut to the base and therefore I did not complete the predetermined flight plan and could not unload my chopper.

The next mission is Op. recon to take photos of the enemy while flying an H-13 Sioux chopper. Be careful the enemy is shooting at you and your camera does not appear until you are in position to take the photos. If you are too high or too far away from the enemy camp you will be asked to get more photos. You are under heavy machine gun fire so it can be difficult.

The third mission is Rescue Wings where you are to rescue a downed pilot of a T-28 who survived the crash. You will be flying a UH-10 Huey. I found that I have to calibrate the controls before every mission as they always return to the middle position.

Gunship II is a Vietnam War era combat flight simulator. The game currently offers 5 missions, with the developer claiming several more are coming soon. The first mission is to transport a load of cargo from a carrier to a land base using an H-34 Choctaw. Then you have to take photos of a couple suspicious villages using an H-13 Sioux. The third mission is to rescue a pilot trapped behind enemy lines using a UH-1D Huey. This is followed by an air patrol in a UH-1B Huey Gunship. The final mission involves another observation helo drawing enemy fire so your AH-1 Cobra can target them. Future missions will supposedly involve the F-4 Phantom II, T-28 Trojan, A-37 Dragonfly, CH-47 Chinook, OH-6 Cayuse and two enemy aircraft, the MiG-15 and MiG-21.

The controls are fairly simple, you slide the control on the left up and down to adjust the throttle (and thus increase or decrease altitude), while the control on the bottom right works the rudder. You move forward, backwards and sideways by tilting your device. The camera button lets you switch between interior and exterior cameras, and you can look around by swiping on the screen. If your aircraft has guns or a camera, the appropriate fire buttons will appear in the lower right corner. The red bar along the top is your aircraft health.

Some people have complained about a lack of instructions, but they are provided for you IF you follow the designated flight path. Just fly through the red arrows and all will be explained.

The graphics are pretty good, and the developer did a great job on the rotor motion effects.

My primary complaint about the game is that there are no instruments, particularly an altimeter. It is sometimes difficult to figure out how high you are above the ground. An airspeed indicator and vertical speed indicator would be handy too.

I think there is a glitch in the second mission. It kept complaining I was too far away while taking the photos, even when I landed right in the middle of the area where I was supposed to take pictures! Do they want me to get out and take portraits of the soldiers or something? Say pho mát!

The game works well on my Motorola Xoom, however many of the buttons in the game are black with no labels at all. This isn't a problem when there is only one button, such as at the end of a mission, but pressing the pause button brings up four blank buttons. If you have this problem, the pause menu buttons are apparently "resume", "restart", "calibrate" and "return to menu".

The app is free of In-App Purchasing, nor does it have OpenFeint, Flurry, or any other secret data miners. The only permissions it calls on are harmless: accessing the vibrator and keeping the screen from dimming. Excellent!

Five star app, minus 1 star for the glitches and 1 for the lack of instruments. If these are fixed, I will adjust my rating accordingly.

Needs more to it. fun otherwise. More missions, more aircraft, ect. Would not pay for product unless it expands dramatically.
