From the Musician to the Master,
By RJ (PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Phantasmagorical: Master and Musician, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
The latest instrumental offering from Phil Keaggy shows us, once again, that their is no bottom to the well of Phil's music. The subtitle, "Master & Musician 2," is very appropriate: although Phil's music transcends any category or label, it is obvious to all who are familiar with him that he is the musician, playing music inspired by and written for his Master, and these pieces are worthy of Him. I cannot recommend this CD highly enough.

The Finest Guitarist Ever ?,
This review is from: Phantasmagorical: Master and Musician, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Brace yourself because I'm going to say something controversial--something that most popular guitarists will only admit in private for fear of blaspheming the "holy" reputations of superstars like Hendrix or Clapton:The World's Greatest Guitar Player is Phil Keaggy. Rather than argue with me, listen to the following songs: 1."Unveiling" and "Listen Closely" from Paul Clark and Friends' COME INTO HIS PRESENCE and GOOD TO BE HOME 2.Any Keaggy solo from Michael Omartian's SEASONS OF THE SOUL 3.The last five minutes of PK's prog-rock electric foray on "Time" and the Impressionist adaptation of C.S. Lewis' "As the Ruin Falls" on the PK solo CD LOVE BROKE THRU 4.The mostly-improvised,live, concerto-like solos on "Rejoice" from HOW THE WEST WAS ONE and "The Further Adventures Of.." from REVELATOR 5.The entirety of his MASTER AND THE MUSICIAN and LIGHTS OF MADRID CD's 6.The guitar-synth mastery displayed on "The Dawn is Near" from ELECTRIC BLUE 7."The Quote Jester", a melodic yet shred-packed classical composition from Keaggy, King, and Dente's INVENTION 8."Rivulets"-- a solo piece performed live with a loop machine-- in addition to everything else on ACOUSTIC SKETCHES, and 9.The entirety of Keaggy's new PHANTASMAGORICAL. After that, go on You-Tube and watch Keaggy masterfully, gracefully, effortlessly perform the nearly-impossible-to-play "Reunion" and "Time". Hey, you may end up questioning my original superlative (I doubt it!), but I bet you'll become a Phil Keaggy fan regardless.

Phil Keaggy does it again.,

This review is from: Phantasmagorical: Master and Musician, Vol. 2 (Audio CD)
Phil Keaggy does it again. Many enjoyed "Master and Musician", and "Beyond Nature" is considered one of the best acoustic music CDs, and "Phantasmagorical" delivers. Phil Keaggy is probably one of the most over looked guitarists of the day. While many look to Joe Satriani and Vinnie Moore as the very best, Phil Keaggy belongs along side them. If you entertain and need soothing and enjoyable music in the background, this fits the bill! If you want to be amazed at acoustic guitar licks then this fits the bill. Complete your collection and ensure that you not only own, Beyond Nature, but also Phantasmagorical. Phil Keaggy is a delightful guitarist. MAD
