4.0 out of 5 stars A trip down Memory Lane, June 22, 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Phantom 309 (Audio CD)
My Dad, sister and I use to listen to this tape and sing along with it. I love Red Sovine but am not a big Country music fan. It is the trip down memory lane that gets me every time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Red Sovine, the Missing Link, June 21, 2000
This review is from: Phantom 309 (Audio CD)
If you don't own anything by the late, great Red Sovine you are out of your mind. Songs about ghosts, trucks, and crippled kids. All recited in a way-too-heartfelt manner. Phantom 309 is the story of a hitchiker named "Big Joe" who hitches a ride from a trucker. Turns out he was a GHOST! Tom Waits even covered this one once.

Breaker,....... breaker 1-9, this is one one heckuva record comin' on down the line.

Just the other day, I was sippin' some coffee. Havin some ham and biscuits. Trucker friend of mine was rachet-jawin at the other table down the row. He went on and on about Red Sovine, how he touched his heart, seemed to know his soul like the back of his hand.

We-ee-ell, I just had to listen for myself. I went to the nickel and dime and picked me up a dusty 76 of ole Red.

I have to confess, I struggled to chase down a lump in my throat that just wouldn't go down as I heard Red speaking straight to me. I realized I had been a crippled man, until his miraculous voice came down and lifted me up.

I only wish I'd a had the chance to play it for Little Joe, my crippled dog who passed on just the other day. Poor little fella got crushed crossing the road in the blindin' snow. He was like family, you see.

Aaaaaaww, I guess Red filled a void in my life. I let ole Red ride me up and down the Interstate and the hours just seem to fly by.

God Bless America, and-- Catch ya 'gain!!
