Editorial Reviews

Kreator are one of Germany s most enduring and
prodigious thrash metal bands, and on their Nuclear Blast
debut, they unleash something deliciously dark.
Always edgy, powerful and with scathing, sometimes
politcal lyrics, Kreator have long been the leaders of
the German thrash scene. Now with their upcoming Teutonic
Terror tour with Accept, they are primed and ready to devour
and conquer once more.

Overall, this is a really great album from a truly consistent and focused band that know how to write good metal songs.
Gentlegiantprog
All in all, this album has the feeling of a "modern classic", and would be highly recommended to any fans of Kreator, thrash, or just metal in general.
Metalli-Holic
Some absolutely killer precision executed solos, melodic rhythm guitar riffs to add balance to the heaviness, and a cast of pro level musicianship.

Kreator have been on a real upward trajectory artistically speaking for the last decade or so. Since 2001's superb Violent Revolution album and the establishment of their current line-up, everything that the band have put out has been of the utmost quality, keeping to a fairly strict but non-intrusive formula and just knocking out a boatload of brilliant songs.

Now in 2012, with their thirteenth full-length studio album Phantom Antichrist, the legendary German Thrash Metal band continue in the same vein that has kept the last three albums so absolutely vital and deliver more of the same formula that mixes their classic 1980s style with elements of Gothenburg style, an intermittent touch of groove and a few sections with clean vocals over arpeggiated bits in their too for variety.

Each of the albums that follow that aforementioned formula also puts enough of an individual twist on it to have its own identity though, and I guess Phantom Antichrist's twist would be that it isn't just as fast, isn't just as heavy as often and is a lot more focused on the high-end. It's a more melodic and musical take of the Enemy Of God/Hordes Of Chaos musical direction.

Despite the title track leading with speed and low end, there's a lot of time given on the album overall to slow sections, little guitar vibratos, teasing rolls or little sneaky Hi-Hat strikes. If you are all about the Thrash side of things don't worry though, it isn't as if the band abandoned Thrash, there is a heck of a lot of it in there too. The band did a clever job of balancing mixing things up with keeping what was working well.

I have nothing but praise for this album, on first listen it already gave off "Album Of The Year Candidate" feelings and still grew on me with each subsequent spin.

Ahh, Kreator. Good ol' Kreator. You can always count on Mille and Co. to deliver. Out of all the old-school thrash bands, you know there are certain ones you can depend on, like Overkill or Testament, and that also seem to get better with age. Kreator is right up there with the best of them, and they've released a devastating album in Phantom Antichrist. The songs vary from stomping, high-speed thrash to melodic power metal, and are all superbly skilled, inspired examples of epic songwriting and musicianship. It almost reminds me of classic-era Metallica. Technically proficient, heavy-but-catchy, dramatic and compelling; Kreator have proven again that they are the epitome of professional, accomplished metal musicians. Every song is a highlight, but listen to Civilization Collapse if you want an idea of what this album has to offer; it absolutely smokes! These guys don't disappoint when it comes to writing some of the best music in all of metal.

United In Hate is the most brutal Kreator song since Coma Of Souls!

Do you remember the day's of old when you would go out and pick up your favorite bands new album, back then you would have to rush home and slap that record on the turntable, the music would flow over you and just give you chills. Sometimes this moment was met with disappointment, but we are not talking about Signals here, we are talking about KREATOR. In my opinion the best thrash band of all time and my favorite band since the mid 80's, When I was out record shopping with my buddy Mark hunting down the latest Megadeth boot, or Maiden picture disk I picked up Pleasure To Kill and one listen I was hooked, I have stuck by the band through the years, it was easy to do during the height of the thrash years. I waited for each new release one more brutal than the next, waiting a year, rushing to the store and hearing When the Sun Burns Red or arguably the best riff in thrash metal history Coma Of Souls was a well deserved reward for patiently awaiting for a new Kreator album. I liked Renewal, I still listen to it, if I had to say anything negative about Kreator it would be that I really missed Ventor when he was not on tour, Mille can write some Kick ass songs, but live I think Ventor holds the band together in a live setting.

If you have not heard this album yet, get ready because, it has been YEARS since I have listened to an album that just gives me chills, this album makes me proud to be a fan of Kreator. Thrash never went away in some parts of the world, but it's comeback is really going to get a kick in the ass here in the states with this new album!

Kreator are truly one of those bands that you can definitely depend on to deliver and unleash an unstoppable onslaught of pure stomping, high-speed, ball busting thrash metal. Their newest album from 2012 "Phantom Antichrist" has shown that these legendary German thrashers just keep on getting better with age. This album just smokes, rips, blazes, shreds, and stomps like an angry, rabid beast. It is truly devastating, but in a good way of course, it never disappoints whatsoever. The production on this album thanks to Jens Bogren is just superb and stunning. Every song here on "Phantom Antichrist" is just amazing, varying from romping, stomping, high-speed thrashers such as the title track, "Death to the World", "Civilization Collapse", "United in Hate", and "Victory Will Come", to powerful melodic power cuts like "From Flood into Fire" (my favorite track on here), "Your Heaven My Hell", "The Few, The Proud, The Broken", and "Until Our Paths Cross Again". Like I said, every song on here smokes, there's not one bad song on here whatsoever. Mille Petrozza continues to deliver his angry and devastating vocal attack while adding some occasional clean/spoken word singing as well. The guitars of Petrozza and Sami Yli-Sirnio are also awesome, and I mean flat out awesome as well with a boatload of catchy, heavy, lightning fast, bone crushing riffs, and wonderful, technical solos and harmonies that are so proficient and perfectly executed. And of course let's not forget about Ventor's awesome drumming earth shaking and in your face double bass drumming which propels through the songs at such high-speed intensity, it'll get a series of mosh pits going absolutely bananas like a mad frenzy throughout.Read more ›
