"BOLAN IS THE TARGET OF A JAPANESE TERROR CULT", July 19, 2010
This review is from: Phantom Force (Mack Bolan: the Executioner) (Paperback)
The Executioner #156 written by Rich Rainey issued December, 1991. A well-written book concerning a religious cult in Japan that is mainly involved in criminal activities. Our man in black, Mack Bolan, is their prime target. Conversely, they are Mack Bolan's prime target, now just who do think will win out in the end? Right-o, our man will triumph.
Along the way through 218 pages the action and the body count increases. I truly enjoyed this book as can be seen from the 5-star rating given. While in the military during the early 1960s I was stationed at a small installation called Kamiseya, only 16 kilometers (12 miles) from downtown Yokohama. From that military base I could visit Tokyo or Hakone plus several other sites within a small amount of time. This book contains sections dealing with both Tokyo and Hakone plus the Kabukicho (Kabuki street) district close to the Ginza in Tokyo where I spent a great deal of off duty time. I loved the book though the story is really nothing out of the ordinary, however, for me it was sorta reliving past times.
The religious cult of this book is called the Unseen Powers having an "insane vision of restoring Japan's feudal glory.". This rings true for me as during those past military times we were continuously receiving bulletins of what religious groups to avoid. The main one mentioned during my time in Japan was the Soka Gakkai (Value Creation Society) which even today has 19 million (10 million in Japan) members in 192 countries and territories. Exactly what the problem was I never knew, but as military we were told to avoid the Soka Gakkai, however I know some American servicemen did not. All these years later I still have no real interest or facts about the Soka Gakkai, yet when a book such as Phantom Force mentions a religious cult such as the Unseen Powers it does jog my memory of my past 26 months in Japan.
If you are an Executioner fan or just a fan of GOLD EAGLE adventure books this will offer a good, solid read for a couple nights.
Semper Fi.
