5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive of all the Phantom movies!
After seeing the wonderful Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and it being my favorite Broadway musical I heard several professional critics on TV praising this silent Phantom of the Opera movie so going by what they said I got the video and I really liked it and have never regretted getting it and I don't always agree with professioal...

1.0 out of 5 stars Eh- it was ok...
Considering the time period it was filmed in it was good. But it did lack the elements of mystery, darkness, and romance that any production of Phantom Of The Opera requires. It also lacked all the subtleties that make the story what it is. The thing about it that should bug any self-respecting Phantom-Phan is that it made Erik into a monster! 5.0 out of 5 stars The Definitive of all the Phantom movies!, January 7, 2002
This review is from: Phantom of the Opera [VHS] (VHS Tape)
After seeing the wonderful Andrew Lloyd Webber musical The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway and it being my favorite Broadway musical I heard several professional critics on TV praising this silent Phantom of the Opera movie so going by what they said I got the video and I really liked it and have never regretted getting it and I don't always agree with professioal critics but this time I agree with them completely that Lon Chaney's Phantom is the best of the movie Phantoms and he is the definitive movie Phantom while I think Michael Crawford is the definitive musical phantom! The movie is superb and very recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! It Was Great!!, October 31, 2001

Even though it was made in 1925 and is a silent movie, well not exactly all that silent since they have added to the video the original organ music that was played in the theaters while the movie was showing. I think it's the best Phantom Of The Opera movie and the closest to the book and much better then that horrible abomination that was shown as a TV movie mini series in the late 80's or early 90's and totally wrecked the story and they made Christine into a wimpy Cinderella type who was a total airhead! I have this 1925 Lon Chaney movie on video and I love it and very highly recommend it!

This review is from: Phantom of the Opera [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I have this Phantom of the Opera movie on video and it was the first silent movie I ever saw and I think it's great and I highly recommend it! The scene where Christine pulls off the Phantom's mask is incredible! And Lon Chaney is absolutely fantastic as the Phantom!

It also lacked all the subtleties that make the story what it is. The thing about it that should bug any self-respecting Phantom-Phan is that it made Erik into a monster! It was as though he was an animal or a child throwing a tantrum! There was no depth to it.
