This review is from: Pharmacology (Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews) (Paperback)
As a medical student studying pharmacology for class and for the USMLE, I have found this book to be very helpful. It makes a good reference as well as a good review book. The pictures are very helpful, and the text summarizes the most important information. They include many drugs with concise descriptions.

This book contains pictures, diagrams, tables and text. Great for the visual learner. It can be a supplement or replacement for many pharmacologic topics. I am a second year med student and use it routinely for both review and new information. A MUST!

I never would have done so well without this book. I was so overwhelmed by G&G and my syllabus. I used it back in 1993, so I'm sure it could use an update if they haventm, but I havent seen anything that simplifies some of the true fundementals like this special series. I can still remember the fabulous diagrams about Nicatinic vs Parasympathetic vs Sympathetic receptors, and MOA, competetive receptors. It really stuck. You're not going to learn many individual drugs, but you'll be able to class them quickly and understand interactions, which were all the trick questions about which drug the pt. was PRE-treated with. I nailed every one of those due to my depth of understanding visually of the first five chapters. It really simplifies it for a lunkhead like myself. It really concisely explains difficult concepts. I think the illustrations and tables are what did it for me. Use this to understand concepts and MOA visually, then hit your syllabus hard and memorize all the petty facts.

I, too, found this text to be an excellent one! Very easy to read and to understand. Excellent figures to help visual learners. Disease/drug sections are logically organized. Couldn't have survived without it!

This review is from: Pharmacology (Lippincott's Illustrated Reviews) (Paperback)
This is a good book for every one. I am a high school student with a job as a pharmacy tech. I am most of the way though my Bio H class of sophmore year but with a dictionary and online websites for little help this book can teach you everythingmost chapers include: a slight review on the body system that the drug affects such as the first few chapter have to do with cholinergic drugs on the nervous system followed by a few paragraphs about each drug what it does, what is used for theriputically and adverse affects, also there is some times an antidote. if you are looking for a good book stop because this is easy to undersand and has a ton of information -Andrew

An incredible resource. I'm using it instead of the expensive, hard-to-read pharmacology texts recommended by faculty. The illustrations make it perfect for visual learners (such as myself).
