PreTest Pharm,
This review is from: Pharmacology: PreTest Self-Assessment and Review, Thirteenth Edition (PreTest Basic Science) (Paperback)
If you're looking for high-quality review questions to supplement your studying, this is the book. Question stems are clinicaly-oriented and do a great job of giving you a sense of both the scenarios in which a drug is likely to be used and just how the side effects actually manifest. Explanations are thorough and address not only the correct answer but rather all of the options with adequate depth such that they still have much to teach even if you get the question right. This is great if used in the early stages of studying. For pharm there is currently no other book like this one and I'm extremely glad I have it as part of my study arsenal!

This book hit the sweet spot an all the stuff you need to know in pharm. It's also a great self-assessment, and the questions are able to demonstrate the important exceptions to all the general rules you need to understand pharmacology. Highly recommended by this second-year med student.

This review is from: Pharmacology: PreTest Self-Assessment and Review, Thirteenth Edition (PreTest Basic Science) (Paperback)
This and the PreTest pathology book are a one-two punch for second year coursework. Question sets are broken up logically and the answer descriptions are just as educational as any review source you can find out there. I honestly think they should do a larger version of this book. 500 questions may seem like a lot, but some of the sections are lacking. The sheer volume of information in pharmacology almost necessitates a 1,000 question book. :) Again, as a disclaimer to my reviews, my study methods focus heavily on practice questions. If you prefer an outline view of material or a broad range of questions in the same section, this probably isn't the review source for you. It is an excellent prep for coursework that works progressively through classes and systems. As a review source for a larger exam, like Step 1 or the Shelf, perhaps you should lean more towards an online q-bank. |
