5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for any medic
Dr. Guy offers his vast insight and knowledge on pharmacology to EMS providers on iTunes and now in paperback. His podcast, which are similiar to chapters in the book, are also excellent and I HIGHLY recommend them to any prehospital providers. The information he gives on medications most frequently used, routes and doses is up to date and easy to understand. Medication...

1.0 out of 5 stars Embarrassing
This book is garbage. Why this book gets good reviews is beyond me. If your education on pharmacology is solely prescribed by the information in this book, you going to be considered mentally challenged when it comes to emergency pharmacology. The whole book is mainly made up of drug cards, which are horrible, they don't even give you the onset or duration of the drug,...

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for any medic, May 6, 2009

Medication errors are becoming a common occurance and under stressful situations, even the most seasoned medic can make a critical error. Dr. Guy provides us with the upper hand in patient safety and advanced medication education.

Very helpful book. Detailed with classification, MOA, indications, contras, side effects, dosages etc. Has lots of visuals of many drugs as well. Explains in laymen terms how drugs work on the body.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best prehosp pharm book out there, August 6, 2010
This review is from: Pharmacology for the Prehospital Professional, 1e (Paperback)
Dr. Guy is a phenomenal educator and his pharm book is hands-down the best one out there--not just for paramedics but for all critical care transport professionals. It's well-laid out, concise, topical and easy to use in both clinical practice and as a teaching reference. Dr. Guy understands what it's like to be out on the streets (what, you mean our patients *don't* read the textbook?) and his case studies reflect that practical applicability. And let's face it, pharm can be a little boring, but Dr. Guy's mix of humor and expertise makes it kinda fun. Our flight crews often listen to his podcasts on the way back to base as quick, effective reviews of patho and pharm. This book and its accompanying Podcasts should be standard curriculum in any paramedic program. I would give this book six stars if I could.

I felt this purchase was a good one. It was well thought out and used analogies to explain complicated information, that helped greatly in understanding the material. It also had drug cards in the book, i copied them on a printer and kept them in my purse to study in various 'down time' like waiting for car repairs, etc. overall, it was very helpful in learning necessary information for my medic education.

it took a whole year to get my own copy, but the waiting was worth it. One of the best books I have ever read conceived to introduce a difficult field to Paramedic students. As an EMS educator, I strongly recommend the book for teachers and students alike. You won't be desappointed by its contents, nor the way it is written or organized. The DVD included is also very good.

I enjoy Dr. Guy's podcasts on iTunes and his book has made learning pharm for paramedic school much less stressful. Great buy for new paramedic students, flight RNs, and even seasoned paramedics looking to review and gain new insights into prehospital drug therapy.

This book is garbage. Why this book gets good reviews is beyond me. If your education on pharmacology is solely prescribed by the information in this book, you going to be considered mentally challenged when it comes to emergency pharmacology. The whole book is mainly made up of drug cards, which are horrible, they don't even give you the onset or duration of the drug, but they do provide most of the unimportant, irrelevant information that pertains to the drug. Buy a real pharmacology book, such as, Prehospital Emergency Pharmacology by Bryan E. Bledsoe, which isn't the best either, but at least you won't kill anyone.
