2.0 out of 5 stars Buy the book - COMES WITH AUDIO!
I bought this product as the hardcopy book actually which CAME WITH A CODE FOR ACCESS TO ALL THE AUDIO FILES! Do not pay the same price for audio only when you could get the hardcopy too for basically the same cost. Love the audio but don't pay for it when its free if you just buy the book.

This book can DRASTICALLY reduce the amount of time you will spend revising pharmacology. Most review books are written in a paragraph form that does not at all aid the visual memorization of the page ; Something that makes one lose focus as one reads more and, after sometime, the acquired information starts to melt together into a perfectly unrecognizable cocktail that can by no means help one in an exam setting , much less in a clinical one. This book, however ,with its question-answer format, presents the information in a very memorable and thought-provoking manner that makes later revision a MUCH easier task than the revision of other review books. With all due respect to the great and famous Lippincot Pharmacology , this book is a lot better . It has almost all the information in Lippincot but written in a more user-friendly manner. It is GREAT for USMLE Step 1. Be good to yourself and buy this book.

I recently came across Pharmacology Recall in the book store and it was a great find! The book is concise so i was able to review a large amount of high yield information quickly. This book works well with lippincott's pharmacology as well. I have highly recommended it to other second years.

5.0 out of 5 stars SECOND EDITION, March 22, 2007
The previous review by M. Byrne refers to the 1ST EDITION.
The new book is completely updated with the latest drugs and pharmacological principles. It serves as a great quick review before the USMLE or medical school lectures.

3.0 out of 5 stars good source but no longer up-to-date, June 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Pharmacology Recall (Paperback)
Having just taken Step 1 of the boards, I wanted to review this book which served as my primary review text for Pharmacology. The layout is the same as it is in the entire "Recall" series and, in my opinion, greatly enhances the effectiveness of this book. Instead of reading paragraph after paragraph of explanations, I think the question-answer format is much more conducive to memorization.

Having said that, knowing the information in this book will probably only be sufficient to get you 80-85% of the Pharm questions correct. It was published in 2000 and perhaps the material in it was completed a year or two before that. Consequently, there were a few drugs that I had never seen before - especially in the CNS pharmacology, cancer, and anti-inflammatory drugs. As an example, in one of the cases, the book states that enuresis in kids is treated with imipramine. So, when I read through the case I was relatively confident that I would pick the correct answer and move on. Nope, imipramine was not listed in the foils. Instead, the follow-up question was something along the lines of: "if first-line therapy does not work, which second line agent would be appropriate?" This time it was listed. That's just one example, but there are others and, in some cases, questions asking for the indications, adverse effects, and contraindications of drugs that are not listed in Pharm Recall.

If I had it to do over again, I would probably buy this book but not rely on it exclusively. Instead, I'd look for something a little more recent and use that as my primary source - maybe do a section of Pharm Recall at night before bed to hammer the big ideas home. Good luck guys.

I had been searching for an audio pharmacy review to listen to while driving. I was so glad to find this product. I've only listened to the antimicrobial chapters so far, but have been very happy with the information presented.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Pharm Book for Step 1, March 31, 2009

There was only drug I didnt know about on my Step 1 exam thanks to this book. It comes with free audio, so you can always study on the go. The book is neatly organized into systems and each drug has classification, mechanism of action, side effects, indications and contraindications. The book also has all the recent drugs on the market such as spectinomycin which are actually fair game for the exam. At the end of the book is a Power Review, which gives a you dramatic rundown of all High Yield testable material. I highly recommend this book for anyone studying for Step 1.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great book, March 2, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book and the included Mp3 downloads (comes with a code for a website to download from) have helped my medical studies so far. I wish I had this for the first two sections. I am a first year medical student and the chapters are organized by body systems, which is the same as my curriculum. There are short, individual chapters for the book and audio portions, which makes finding specific topics easy. I listen to each section a few times and eventually try to answer the questions before the other person on the audio responds. There are diagrams in some of the chapters to aid in understanding of the drug mechanisms. The book is small enough to fit in a purse or small handbag. It is well worth the price.
