Book Description

0781757843 978-0781757843 July 18, 2005 Second

This advanced pharmacotherapeutics text for nurse practitioners and physician assistants offers guidelines on prescribing drugs for over 50 common diseases and disorders. The book is organized by disorder rather than drug class and includes algorithms and case studies that illustrate critical thinking aspects of prescribing, such as drug selection, lifespan considerations, therapeutic drug monitoring, adverse reactions, unexpected outcomes, and when to change therapy.

This Second Edition has new chapters on oncologic disorders and complementary and alternative medicines. Improved case studies reflect more realistic practice issues in decision-making. Additional areas addressed include food-drug interactions, dietary considerations, and concerns regarding geriatric patients.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice, May 7, 2007
This review is from: Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice: A Practical Approach (Paperback)
I just completed my Family Nurse Practitioner Program. I have purchased several EXPENSIVE pharmacology books over the past three years, all which made the pharm complicated and difficult to understand. This book is the best, easy to carry and easy to read. The cover is wimpy so am going to take it to a graphics place and have a binder put on it so it does not fall apart.

1.0 out of 5 stars FULL OF ERRORS, July 10, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice: A Practical Approach (Paperback)
This book is pack-full of errors. One page will give you erroneous information, the next will give you definitive. There are spelling errors and outright mistakes. There are places that will define diseases incorrectly, drug metabolism wrong, dosages are sometimes way off... it is incredible. I only wish the school I am attending had read this text before they forced us to use it for the advanced pharmacology course in my FNP program. We are learning less than we should be simply due what this textbook lacks, quality, efficiency, and CORRECT INFORMATION. Grab something else is my advice to anyone who has an option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, January 11, 2010

This review is from: Pharmacotherapeutics for Advanced Practice: A Practical Approach (Paperback)
I just finished my FNP program and as I am out in practice find myself in need of quick review on many things not well studied or specifically addressed in school. This book is organized by system/complaint with tables listing first line, second line, and third line treatment in each chapter. There are also sections in each chapter specific to peds, women, and geriatrics. There are treatment algorithms which make decision making easy, simple, and at a glance. I am replacing my Edmunds and Mayhew with this one. I highly recommended this book.
