5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough, yet concise, coverage of all major disease states
This is the best formatted, most current handbook on pharmacotherapy. I especially appreciate the pathophysiologic approach, drug treatment, and monitoring parameters outlined throughout the book. Chapters are concise, and yet offer thorough coverage of the most commonly encountered disease states. Each chapter is written by one or more expert in the field; chapters...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book IF you have a good knowledge base already
I am a pharmacist who has been out of school for more than 7 years. I bought this book in hopes it would be a good concise review, since I feel like I have forgotten a lot specific disease state information that I learned in school. This book is well organized, but in general I have found it difficult to use for learning. I think this book assumes that you already have...

5.0 out of 5 stars Thorough, yet concise, coverage of all major disease states, May 8, 2000
This is the best formatted, most current handbook on pharmacotherapy. I especially appreciate the pathophysiologic approach, drug treatment, and monitoring parameters outlined throughout the book. Chapters are concise, and yet offer thorough coverage of the most commonly encountered disease states. Each chapter is written by one or more expert in the field; chapters can be read very quickly. A great working tool for clinical pharmacists. I definetely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars great for therapeutics class and for pharmacy practice, January 27, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This is a great book, easy to read and follow. Concise enough where you can read it fast but with enough background information so the drug therapy makes sense. You will get a thorough understanding on what drugs are used and why. Picks up on the key points a pharmacist needs to know in practice and a student or someone who is studying for the boards needs to know for exams. Flowcharts are great, has JNC-VI guidelines which are the standard when it comes to drug therapy and pharmaceutical care. Overall, a great book that will enhance your understanding by leaps and bounds.

5.0 out of 5 stars Physician assistant student, June 24, 2006
This review is from: Pharmacotherapy Handbook (Paperback)
This is a great book. I love how it isn't just about the drugs, but gives background on the diagnosis that you are treating. I think it is layed out well, and find it very useful. I notice a lot of pharm students are reviewing this but I think it is good for practitioner's as well. However, don't think this will fit in your labcoat pocket, it could but it is sorta heavy.

5.0 out of 5 stars Like Cliffnotes for DiPiro, January 10, 2007
This review is from: Pharmacotherapy Handbook (Paperback)
I have used the Pharmacotherapy Handbook as a substitute for the large 3,000+ page DiPiro textbook required for my College of Pharmacy. Now I am able to read the required readings in a few hours, rather than a few days, and I still feel that I am getting the same core information. The best analogy I could think of, is that it is like CliffNotes for the DiPiro Textbook. Good book.

5.0 out of 5 stars great book for any medical/pharmacy student, December 13, 2007
This review is from: Pharmacotherapy Handbook (Paperback)
I bought this book hoping that it would serve as a shorter version of the larger and more detailed textbook. It turned out to do just that. I have used this book on many occasions to review the key things about certain conditions without having to read the lengthy chapters of the textbook.....this is a must have for anyone in the medical field....it provides a concise summary and key points from the bigger version.

I used this as a study guide for my PTCE. If you do so begin studying at least 5 months earlier than planned to truely understand and absorb what you will learn here in addition to your other study guides.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good book IF you have a good knowledge base already, April 16, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
I am a pharmacist who has been out of school for more than 7 years. I bought this book in hopes it would be a good concise review, since I feel like I have forgotten a lot specific disease state information that I learned in school. This book is well organized, but in general I have found it difficult to use for learning. I think this book assumes that you already have a pretty good knowledge of diseases, and uses terminology that is sometimes beyond what I remember. I also feel like it doesn't go into as much detail as I would like for drug recommendations and dosings. Overall, I would not buy again. If you're still in school, this would probably be a great concise book to use along with your big Dipiro. But for someone like me, whose disease knowledge isn't as strong as it used to be, this book is just frustrating.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great for registered nurses, October 22, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This book is great, particularly for registered nurses. We don't need to know every ounce of chemistry and molecular detail, just what it does and what it works with and what is the common prescribing dose for it. But, you can get that in any nursing drug book but this book tells you nuances about the drugs and tells you clinically how it could affect your patients.
