Older Maps then 2003/Hangs up often/Noise in bluetooth,
By
This review is from: Pharos Drive 4-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
After opening the box, it was ready to use with nice 2gb card full of maps and POIs. only 50mb space left in card for your MP3, Pictures and videos. Well, smart me, bought 4gb sd card for it. Now I am ready loaded with my MP3s, photos and what not, to use 4gb card. Lets see what happen:
1. My own home is not in GPS, it is 4 yr old home! Disappointed! well went to website to download the latest as Garmin allows you to download the latest upto purchase date. Need reg# and UPC# for registration, which didn't come in box. emailed amazon invoice to customer service and got that. thanks i didn't had to fax info. Also customer service told me that maps came on SD card are the latest and greatest they have. very disappointed! So no more maps updated in last 4 yrs. 2. Started MP3 player, showed first file invalid, too bad! went to second folder and atleast the 2nd file worked. then I noticed it is showing couple of files invalid. player does not work in background when you are on maps! Also it takes you to first folder every time you go to play mp3. 3. Picture viewer is nice and have reasonable interface. Also POIs and addresses are horrible to search. Well I am going to return mine! shop for a better one. Price is not too bad on this and that was the only thing attracted apart from bundle of so called features.

Can't believe the negativity,
By
This review is from: Pharos Drive 4-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
Wow, I can't believe the negativity. I got one a couple a months ago as an upgrade to a competitor's brand that I had used for many years. I love the blue tooth. I can make a call either from my contact's list or from the device itself. As far as routing capabilities it and I have disagreed a few times, but that is nothing unusual as I use to do that with my other one as well. For the most part I use a GPS for the "last mile", I know my way around my city, got that from using the other one and disagreeing all the time. I use a GPS in other cities that I am unfamiliar with as well.
I have read other reviews elsewhere saying that they had to press some small button to bring up the navigation, not true the big silver one works just fine for me. As for playing MP3's, I might use that at a hotel or something, but I have other device's dedicated for that. It does come with a pair of ear buds, sweet. The photo feature is easy to use and nice to be able show bigger pictures of something than just from your phone. I like mine a lot, I also like the fact that I save a bunch of money from other companies would have wanted for a similar product.

Does not perform as advertised,

This $320 to $360 product does not perform as advertised. For E.g., it can not find a main street that even a cheap GPS finds! It is hard to work with as well. Hope somebody likes it, but not me.

This does not work,
This review is from: Pharos Drive 4-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
I had one for two weeks.
1st It kept saying my home address was at the nearest corner. 2nd It would say you arrived at your destination way to early or way to late. Took you to the neareast street corner. 3rd Every time I tried to get help it was always closed. I would not recommend this product to anybody.

Pharos 140 The worst GPS I have ever use, dont waste your money!,

This review is from: Pharos Drive 4-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
Pharos 140 is the worst GPS i have ever used. It is even dangerous since you need to do multiple stops to reset, does not give you detailed and precise instructions,it is hard to use, not friendly at all.
The voice prompts are insuficient are imprecise. You must be out of your mind, desperated or ignorant (like i was) to buy this GPS. I got it for my wife, she has never been able to use it. When i use it in her car, i go crazy. We do have two more cars with built in GPS and there is a big difference. DO NOT BUY Pharos 140 GPS. You will hate it!

The same day I got the GPS the suction cup glass mount broke. I have to hold it now. Other than that the device is great!

Maps carved out in stone would be better,

I purchased one of these "fabulous" units while traveling in Texas two years ago. I purchased it at a discount at a local "going out of business" CompUSA. After a couple weeks of trying to make this horrible excuse for a GPS unit work like it should, I gave up and tossed it on the floor of my truck where it has sat ever since. There was no returning the unit to the now out of business CompUSA. I just recently found the unit the other day and did some internet searching to see if maybe there were any updates to possibly make it functional, and of course there were none. While searching, I discovered that this unit is still for sale here at Amazon and I cannot believe that anyone would actually consider buying this piece of crap. Please,if you are considering this unit, go outside and get a nice flat rock, bring it inside and carve a map on it of where you want to go. It well be far superior to anything you will encounter with this unit. According to this unit my house is about 2 miles down the road from where it actually is. The battery lasts about fifteen minutes before it shuts down and every time it boots up from being shut down, you have to go through this horrible sequence of events that are completely and utterly foolish. You need to tap a moving cursor 8 times and then tell it where you are and when it does finish booting, even though you told it what state you are in, it decides to display a different state. Did I mention points of interest. A sloth has more POI's than this unit. On a positive note:), the bluetooth feature actually did work with my phone and I was able to communicate nicely. Unfortunately, I only used it for the two weeks I was fighting to get the device to function as a GPS unit and not a useless piece of plastic hanging off of my vehicle window. Whomever came up with the POI database for this unit must have lived in a cave for the last 20 years and not realize that there are actually more than just a coulple of businesses out there. I purchased a Magellan GPS shortly after this and have been very satisfied. I also have a Magellan and Delorme handhald unit that I am very satisfied with. Enough of my rambling. Just want to say "buyer beware"!

Bad Customer Support,
By
This review is from: Pharos Drive 4-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
My Drive 140 came without the 2 Gb SD chip in the box. Customer support would not send me one. I had to supply my own SD chip and am now in the process of downloading maps from Pharos website - three per day limit! The GPS is underpowered so the display lags behind real-time - if you are using it to navigate to a location you can easily miss a turn. All in all, I'm very disappointed with the product, but even more with the customer support.

Worst Freaking Thing I Have Ever Bought,
By Brian Alvarez "Angered Amish man" (Lancaster, PA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Pharos Drive 4-Inch Bluetooth Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
Dis so horrible! So BAD! umph! Bloody thing sickens me! I damn near threw up because of this ruddy object.
1) The Bluetooth feature is very appealing, being a homeless man on the road. Too bad the Bluetooth doesn't work at all, and now my phone won't turn on! Umph! Thanks, Pharos! 2) The touchscreen is a nice feature... too bad it broke my fingers! -- Because it sucked! Umph! I have relatively pudgy fingers (my fingertips are about 10 inches in diameter) and every time I try to press 'on', I feel a shooting pain in my abdomen. Think my spleen's busted. Umph! The Pharos Navigation system gave me a spinal cord injury, Thanks, Pharos! 3) The built-in conversation that the Pharos offers is a nice feature. Unfortunately, it's abysmal! Umph! Number one, it threatens my family daily with words like, "I will eat your family, you dirty disease-ridden cabron!" Secondly, it keeps trying to send me to Mexico. If I put in 834 Pennsylvania Blvd, it tells me to go to I-95 and head south for the border. Thanks, Pharos! Because of my experiences with this device, I have comdemned all electronics and am now an Amish in Lancaster, Pennsylvania with my family. Thanks, Pharos! Overall, it's a good buy. I may purchase one for my nephew (I really hate him). :) |
