Great item, great price, bad PDA holder...overall worth it, January 19, 2005
This review is from: Pharos PK035 Pocket GPS Navigator Kit for Siemens/T-Mobile Pocket PC Phone (Office Product)
I bought this item from Amazon two months ago and have used it everyday. The GPS is easy to install and configure, and operates flawlessly. It even looks cool sitting on the dashboard with it's purple light. The Ostia mapping software is pretty good, even though I found that a couple of 2 year old US addresses were not mapped.
The only gripe I have with this item is the PDA holder (the reason why I deducted 1 star from the ratings). The holder is made of cheap plastic and very flimsy. I broke one of the install pins on the first try and now have to live with putting my PDA in the coffee cup holder. You may have better luck.
I also purchased the SmartTraffic and SmartFinder service (...) For people like me in Southern California, I think it is a blessing in disguise. It allows you to download real-time traffic information and incorporates this onto the map. This way you can make re-routing decisions in real-time. I have saved myself many a harrowing traffic days because of this.
Overall I rate this product as very good and useful. I am happy at not spending $1500 for a vehicle integrated GPS system, when I bought a car recently. This device (and the traffic service) provide me more functionality than an integrated GPS device.
I am hoping that I will be able to re-use this device when I change my PDA to one with bluetooth.
