More About the Author

Elizabeth Moon grew up on the Texas-Mexico border, a voracious reader and early writer. She spent much of her early years in a hardware store where nothing was in shrink-wrap or little plastic containers, and mule collars still hung on the back wall. She has a history degree from Rice University and a biology degree from the University of Texas at Austin, plus some graduate work in biology at the University of Texas at San Antonio; between the first two, she spent three years on active duty in the USMC. Her bibliography includes 20+ novels and 30+ short fiction works, nearly all in science fiction or fantasy. REMNANT POPULATION was a Hugo finalist in 1997; THE SPEED OF DARK won the Nebula Award in 2003.

When not writing, she likes to wander around taking pictures of wildlife and native plants, bake bread, eat chocolate, sing with a choir, and laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Entertaining and unusual, September 22, 2000
This review is from: Phases (Mass Market Paperback)
In this collection, the author has gathered an interesting collection of stories in many styles (hence the Moon "Phases" title). The stories include hard SF and fantasy, futuristic warfare, quieter "character" tales, and revisits the world of Paksenarrion to tell the story of a minor character.

Moon gives a brief note with each story to indicate her inspiration or the circumstances in which it was written, which adds additional interest. The writing is well done - concise, well characterised, and draws the reader in. This is a must-read for fans, and will appeal to most readers of SF/FAN.

4.0 out of 5 stars A collection of short stories ., August 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Phases (Mass Market Paperback)
This collection of Elizabeth Moon's short stories contains some which have been published before, but also has her own history of how the stories came about.

Fans of Moon will not be disappointed in the collection. It contains numerous stories which were published obscurely or have not seen publication until "Phases". Those unfamiliar with Moon or her short fiction will be extremely happy with her concise style and excellent writing. Her fiction truly conveys the reader into the story and its characters.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not Free SF Reader, August 3, 2007
This review is from: Phases (Mass Market Paperback)
This collection of short stories by Elizabeth Moon is not too bad. The Paksenarion short made me intrigued enough to actually want to check out one of those books sometime in the future.

All in all, it is fairly ordinary, and fans of hers will probably enjoy it even more I would presume. Nothing outstanding, but a couple of good pieces to go with a couple of dodgy stories.
