Great sound, bad fit for those who wear glasses,

Don't buy these if you wear glasses. I was very excited to get these headphones, however after first putting them on (with glasses on), I found them to be very uncomfortable. The earcups are small and push against the ears, which in turn pushes against the legs of the glasses. In addition, the distance between the earcup and the top of the heaphone is too much for those with small heads. The top band doesnt support the weight of the headphone, it is supported by the earcups which leads to pressure on the ears. Other than the fit, the sound is very good to great.

I read various articles and reviews prior to making my decision about buying these. I wanted portable, high quality phones and these fit the bill for me. I'm using it for a week now and they're a competent upgrade to my previous phones (Sennheiser OMX 70 in ears).

Exceptional Sound in a Small Package,

I've enjoyed music with these headphones tremendously. They are particularly good for listening to artists with wide vocal range. They have allowed me to notice details, especially with percussive instruments, that I had not noticed with other headphones. The cups are narrow, so they require some adjustment to get the best sound. For me, this means rotating the cups so that the pads press deep into the back edge of each ear. I can imagine that for someone with larger ears, that this could place the speakers too far off center. Without good positioning, they can sound uncomfortably bright with some music. In any case, with my fairly small head/ears, the bass is very accurate and controlled with a bit of punch -- bass guitar and double bass sound just like they should. The seal is so good that I have to vent them a bit at the start to let out the pressure. Also, they get hot typically after about half an hour, so I have to take a short break from them---but this seems to be the rule with sealed, on-ear headphones. They fold nicely but I wish they came with a rigid case, like some of the other Phiaton headphones with this footprint. They seem fairly sturdy but the arms and hinge holding the cups are plastic, so a rigid case would put me more at ease when I travel with them.I've downgraded my rating from a 5 to a 4 due to the heat issue. These are great sounding headphones, but some days my ears heat-up the cups almost immediately and it becomes unbearable. |
