5.0 out of 5 stars What a find!
I just got home from a Phil Keaggy concert and was blown away by his talent and guitar virtuosity. Every word I think of to describe him seems like an understatement. His CDs can never replicate what you see and hear live. But once you've seen him in concert, it makes experience of listening to the CDs that much richer. I would recommend this CD, especially if you...

3.0 out of 5 stars Good-but not tops for Phil
Phil is awesome--maybe the best guitar player ever. This album, however, is well crafted and performed pop--nothing wrong with that, but I don't find myself going back to it often--and his guitar work is very understated. That shows how amazingly ego-less this guy is, but doesn't address the needs of my jones : ). For his albums with bands and lyrics (how many...

For his albums with bands and lyrics (how many artists do you have to make that distinction about?), I like Crimson & Blue and Find Me In These Fields better.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very Versatile Phil does it again, March 29, 2001

From the opening cut to the last few notes this CD treats the listener to some of Phil Keaggy's best songwriting in years!! Phil has a well deserved reputation throughout the music world as one of the best living guitar players. However, his vocal music has never received as much attention. This CD is a great place to start mending that fence.

This is not a rockin' Phil album. Instead, the song is the thing here. And there are several jewels on this album. From the great groove of 'A Sign Came Through the Window', to the Celtic influence on 'Above All Things', to the tenderness of 'Quite Suddenly', Phil covers a wide variety styles on this album. Phil's vocals have never been better, and the quality of the lyrics are the best on any of Phil's albums in recent memory.

Personally, I feel this is one of Phils best vocal albums, right up there with 'Find Me in These Fields' and 'Crimson and Blue'. The disc demands repeated listenings to really sink in, so pick it up...put it on....and enjoy!!!

I would recommend this CD, especially if you are new to Phil's work, although I can't say it's better than his others (they are all so good!). "Premium Jams" - a new release - is a must-have if you enjoy his rockin' electric guitar style.

5.0 out of 5 stars Versatile, April 26, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Phil Keaggy (Audio CD)
I've always liked Phil Keaggy, he is a master guitarist! I saw him perform once and it was amazing to see how he not only played the guitar, but used it for all kinds of other sound effects. It was like nothing I had ever seen before. He sure is blessed with a great talent. I feel I must mention how some of the songs - esp. track 6, sounds just like the Beatles (and 3, a bit). If I weren't a Christian, I would listen to the Beatles - here Phil Keaggy fills the slot! Awesome variety of eclectic styles in the rest! (Also, I cried when I heard track 11. The background vocalist, Gianna Jessen, is the survivor of an unsuccessful abortion; God protected her. She is alive, nearly grown up, a music major, and singing to praise her Creator!)

5.0 out of 5 stars Utterly fantastic, February 15, 1999

Time will tell, but I suspect this is the best PK album yet. It gets better with every listen. Phil's talent is clearly not of this world!

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply "blown-a-way"!!!, December 30, 1998
This review is from: Phil Keaggy (Audio CD)
Prior to this album, I have only been exposed to Phil's amazing guitar work on albums like Beyond Nature, and Acoustic Sketches. I didn't expect Phil to have a great vocals too. I was simply blownaway by Phil's blending great guitar skills, and vocals into tender and up-lifting music. Jesus Loves The Album!

5.0 out of 5 stars he's getting better with age, December 16, 1998

Phil continues to amaze me with his versatality in putting out one amazing album after another. This latest is hands-down one of his best: the lyrics, the balance of rock and slow, and of course the way he makes guitars sing...beyond description. I'm going to Ireland in a fortnight and I am taking a dozen CD's of this work to spread the good news!

5.0 out of 5 stars Phil Keaggy's best vocal cd ever!, October 21, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Phil Keaggy (Audio CD)
Fans of Phil Keaggy always expect alot from his new cd's. Well, look out, cause this one delivers bigtime! It is absolutely his best vocal cd ever. I'd say best period, but that is probably reserved for his instrumental "Beyond Nature". This new cd has beautiful ballads (Under the Grace, Quite Suddenly), cool Keaggy rock (Sign thru a Window, Chase the Bad Away), and absolutely wonderful lyrics. I can't recommend this cd highly enough.

5.0 out of 5 stars i'd rate it ten stars if i could, October 8, 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Phil Keaggy (Audio CD)
i haven't gotten hold of this cd yet, but i have every other one that's available at least the ones that aren't imports, and i've heard him do "Above All Things" live (fantastic) and I'm pretty sure i've heard "Days Like You" done live too if it's the one i'm thinking of that goes "i've had days like you...stuck in a rut...feeling the blues...oh i've had days like you...just holding my ground...time leads us to choose...how do we end, win or lose?...oh i've had days like you...and these days just come around..." can't remember the rest cause i think i only heard it like twice but it was great. And i think Phil said at one show that "Above All Things" is taken from um Thomas Moore's writings I think it was? don't quote me on that. well, anyway, if this cd is anything like his others...ten stars...Keaggy is the best guitarist alive today and probably EVER. anyway...peace out and Godspeed

Phil Keaggy is amazing! I saw him perform many of these songs live last evening 3/20/99. Each one was just as good as the other. He kept doing Elvis impersonations too. Talentened would be an understatement to describe him, blessed and gifted is closer to the truth. I look forward to each album with anticipation surpassed only by the second coming of Christ.
