4.0 out of 5 stars Why I bought this CD...(a bit of trivia)
Ironically, I had never heard anything by Phil Wickham when I purchased this CD (and I normally don't buy anything I haven't listened to). However, I read an article about Phil and discovered that his father was John Wickham, a member of one of my favorite "Jesus Music" groups in the early '70s. Overcome with nostalgia, I bought Phil's CD!!

I have to tell...

I love the music from Phil Wickam but the CD I received from Amazon is a bit scratched. The first two songs skip over certain parts. I did not want the hassle of sending it back for a differant copy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Why I bought this CD...(a bit of trivia), January 9, 2007

Ironically, I had never heard anything by Phil Wickham when I purchased this CD (and I normally don't buy anything I haven't listened to). However, I read an article about Phil and discovered that his father was John Wickham, a member of one of my favorite "Jesus Music" groups in the early '70s. Overcome with nostalgia, I bought Phil's CD!!

I have to tell you, though, I love this CD. It probably goes without saying that it's NOTHING like his father's music. It's also nothing like most of the other music on the Christian market today, which is a GOOD thing. Some reviewers compare his voice and music style to Jason Morant, but I think his sound is much better than Morant's. The comparison to Coldplay is probably better. My 16 year old daughter, who happens to like Keane, sees some similarities between their music and Phil's.

All comparisons aside, I think Phil's voice and music are both somewhat unique. I'll close with an observation about the last cut on this release. Musically, "Holy, Holy, Holy" may be one of the simplest songs on the CD. However, it is hauntingly beautiful, and the lyrics provide a profound glimpse of the glory and majesty of God. What more could you ask for from a mere song?

Phil Wickham is just so passionate for the Lord and it really shines through his music. The lyrics are beyond deep; they touch my spirit and help me get in tune with the Lord's spirit. Great album! Actually all 3 of his albums are great! Passion filled lyrics for the Lord is what this artist is all about! Let this album help you fall in love with the Lord!!

I love this CD. Phil was a wonderful voice and such great talent. All the songs draw me into the Holy Place! My favorite is Mystery. When I listened before I bought this I was crying at the beauty of the songs. Awesome!!

I am a Phil Wickam fan and if you are too then you'll want this CD. It takes a little bit to get used to them (which is why I like his songs) but they grow on you. I must say, however, that there aren't any "great" songs such as "beautiful" from the Canons album. But it is still a good cd.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Album, August 20, 2011

This album is great. Excellent music and lyrics; very contemporary Christian music. Wickham's voice reminds me at times of Bono of U2, and then also of Freddie Mercury at times. Beautiful relic!

Phil Wickham is worship music done right. Granted, I am no fan of worship music due to the lyrics being repetitive, but with this guy, it doesn't even matter, and his self-titled debut album is no different to his way of worship. He writes thoughtful and encouraging lyrics, unlike Chris Tomlin, Paul Baloche, and other worship acts who just praise God and tell the obvious.
