I bought this CD after a lot of thinking because there are only 4 tracks. However, the second I started listening to the first track I was glad I bought it. Phil Woods has about 5 minute solos on every track and the tempos are out of this world. He plays licks during his solos that are truly amazing and I haven't even heard Michael Brecker play some of these ideas. This CD is definitely a must buy for people who like jazz, or more especially, Phil Woods. Don't let the short number of songs turn you away from buying this CD. You definitely won't regret it.

I'm a jazz guitarist and collector of jazz records. If you're a Charlie Parker fan, you're almost certainly inclined to dig Phil Woods. I dig Phil. He always "brings it", playing with real passion, daring and urgency. I decided to review this album because I saw that it was lonesome, without a single review. It seemed a shame, as this album is a fun and crazy ride. It's somewhat "out" and ambitious, but in a playful and accessible way. This is not your usual, bebop outing, by any means. It's intently adventurous, but earnest in it's emotional range. I'm one of those guys that buys albums, listens to them once or twice, and then they typically gather dust on the shelf. A few good soldiers make the cut and get a rotation within my playlist. This one grabbed me on an emotional and cerebral level. To my ears, it's a winner and worthy of note.

This hot early post bop. This is not indicative of most of Phil Woods career. All the more reason to get it. It shows that his command of all aspects of the jazz form were at their height in the late 60s. I wish he had done more like this.
