Originally released on the Gamble label in 1970, this was The O'Jays' first Gamble and Huff-produced LP. Its sales figures were modest at best and it's by no means as well-remembered as most of the group's subsequent releases but it remains a vital part of the O'Jays' catalog to this day. This is a truly collectable album that truly deserves to be reissued--with better remastering--and is representative of the early-'70s Philly soul sound.

This is the start of Philly soul. No collection of R&B music can be complete without this cd. The O'Jays were raw then, but who wasn't at one time.

4.0 out of 5 stars The begining, July 15, 2005
This review is from: In Philadelphia (Audio CD)
My favorite Ojay albums are this one and the 'Backstabber' follow-up. This album did not sell well when it first came out and that was a shame. There are some excellent cuts here. 'One Night Affair,' and 'You're The Best Thing Since Candy,' I know for sure were released as singles. 'Let Me Into You're World,' Branded,' 'Looky Looky,' 'I Got The Groove,' and 'Deeper In Love, are all solid. Leon Huff really pounds the keys on 'Looky ,' and 'Deeper.' Those songs are more than enough reason to pick up this disc. You can hear the future Philly sound very clearly here. Just listen to the opening of 'I Got the Groove.' Very underrated album and songs.

Not an always easy to find item. My Husband had it on his favorites list forever, and was thrilled to get it. Excellent music!
