Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Part medical mystery, part cultural history, The Philatelic History of Diabetes is the story of diabetes, chronicling experimental research, therapeutic advances, and hope for a cure.

With 30 internationally issued postage stamps beautifully displayed and identified by country and date of issue, this book groups commemorative stamps into five evolutionary phases that illustrate how diabetes has been viewed throughout history. All royalties from the sale of this book go to the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation.

From the Inside Flap
A thousand years before Hippocrates, doctors in ancient Egypt treated diabetes with beer swill, cucumber flowers, and water from the bird pond. Today the cure is almost within reach, and this exciting book unfolds the story, one stamp at a time, of just how far we've come. The Philatelic History of Diabetes: In Search of a Cure is an exciting chronicle of experimental research, therapeutic advances, and hope for a cure. Covering 3,500 years of history, it includes photos of fascinating stamps from around the world.

With more than 40 internationally issued postage stamps beautifully displayed and identified by country and date of issue, this book groups commemorative stamps into five evolutionary phrases that illustrate how diabetes has been viewed throughout history. A must-have book for lovers of stamps as well as those concerned with finding a cure for this disease.

Travel around the world. Back in time. And into a fascinating medical detective story that--with your help--could end with a cure. Thanks to the generosity of Lee J. Sanders, DPM, all royalties from the sale of this book go to the American Diabetes Association Research Foundation.
