A fresh insight on old faces,
By Justin Reed (New Bedford, MA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philippe Halsman: A Retrospective - Photgraphs From the Halsman Family Collection (Hardcover)
Halsman offers more than the standard potrait photography we have grown accustomed to. He offers a fresh perspective to faces we have seen countless times, by offering us an intimate look into thier lives. For instance, how many people would think to photograph Monroe pumping iron, or Richard Nixon jumping up and down like a little boy. It is this inginuity that allows the audience to appreciate a different side to these celebrities. I am a longtime fan of Halsman's work, and i would strongly recommend that anyone intersted in the stars of the 50's -70's to get this book. You will appreciate seeing them in a new light.

This review is from: Philippe Halsman: A Retrospective - Photgraphs From the Halsman Family Collection (Hardcover)
I know the Halsman family personally and I have long been a fan of Phillippe Halsman. He seemed to be able to capture the fleeting expressions of his subjects at the perfect moment in time. He is famous for his photos of Salvador Dali, but this book demonstrates that he has the same ability to connect nearly any subject to its audience.
