Book Description

September 1989
This is a unique gay guide for the Philippines. Of course it gives the names, addresses, and other details of worthwhile places to visit in major cities and towns. But it also offers suggestions on what to do and what not to do, where to stay, how to change money at a good rate, and which is the best way to travel around the country. Subtle changes since the fall of the Marcos regime: these are analyzed in depth. In a very personal way, the author discusses the psychological makeup of Filipinos you are likely to meet. Since companionship is one of the most endearing qualities of the gay scene in the Philippines, this particular aspect is addressed at great length. Nothing has been overlooked or left to chance. Adresses have been personally verified by the author; maps, routings, and a Tagalog language section are provided. As one reader wrote, "after reading Philippine Diary, I really felt that I had insights into the gay scene. I was well-prepared for my first visit, which turned out to be very rewarding and , I'm happy to say romantic!"

Even though the book was published in 1989, it is still quite useful and I would highly recommend it for gay men travelling to the Philippines

Mr. Itiel writes from personal experience and displays his sensitivity to the guest country and its friendly people.
