Great Filipino food for an American Cook,
By
This review is from: Philippine Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)
As a 1st generation Filipino-American, I grew up loving Filipino comfort food but never knew how to make it myself. This was the first cookbook of Filipino recipes that I was able to follow clearly - with other books, I was constantly calling family members to define terms and ingredients. Also, it contains all the recipes I grew up begging my mother to make for me. But the best part was that I could find 99% of the ingredients in my local supermarket!

Authentic Filipino taste,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philippine Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)
I've found good Filipino cookbooks very hard to come by and I was pleasantly surprised by this book. The recipes are accurate and meticulously written and the results are exactly the tastes I was used to when growing up in the Philippines. If I could have just one Filipino cookbook in my house, this would be it!

Recipes are accurate and well written;results are good.,

The recipes in this book are true to the foods I grew up on. Using the recipes as written will produce good results. Mrs. Noriega has avoided (thankfully) sensationalizing the recipes.

I love this book. Didn't start cooking until I moved away from family and my mom's cooking. This was a great and easy start to get a taste of home again. My mother has even borrowed it from me to refresh her memory on some dishes.

Ok for reference but limited,

Married to a Filipino, I use this book often but only as a guide for the ingredients. If I follow the recipe's exactly, it's always a bit different than my mother in law's cooking. Most recipes must be adjusted to taste and sometimes still come out bland. Nevertheless, of the 4 Filipino cookbooks we have, this one gets used 2-3x per week.

The recipes are bland.,
By Gemini Mom (El Cerrito, California) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philippine Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)
I'm no expert like my mom when it comes to cooking Pilipino food. However, I used this a recipe book only a handful of times because the flavoring of the food is so bland. Granted that the recipes are a healthier version of the usual Pilipino-fare but it sacrifices taste for many of the recipes ... in some cases the dishes are made so simple that it doesn't even resemble the true Pilipino dish. Amazon offers better recipe books - try those first.

Easy to make...BELIEVE ME!,
This review is from: Philippine Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)
I know Pilipino food has an awful lot of preparation time, those are my fondest memories of my mother in the kitchen while I was growing up in California. Although I'm a Pilipino-American, I truly love good Pilipino cooking and try desperately to recapture those dishes. Now that my mom has passed away, I've been able to use these recipes in this book as a basis for those popular dishes my mom used to make. I do try to deviate from the recipes in order to tailor it to my mother's "Visayan" palette but find that keeping in accordance with the original recipe is just as savory. Thanks Violeta Noriega for making it easy to cook in America those beloved Pilipino dishes from thousands of miles away...

Very Good Easy Filipino Food - coming from a Filipino,
This review is from: Philippine Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)
I am always hesitant to believe reviews on filipino cookbooks and recipes because you never know if the person writing the review is filipino which I think alters the comments especially versus a native who grew up with the culture and the food.
I grew up with this stuff and am filipino and I just absolutely love this book! Mine is worn from being used so often. Sadly, I am 2nd generation Filipino American and like many in my generation, many traditions have fallen to the wayside. It was nice to have a book to refer to when my mom and lolas aren't available to tell me their recipe. Very very very easy to use and the recipes are delicious. I wish they had photos of each item though!

A confidence lifter!,
This review is from: Philippine Recipes Made Easy (Paperback)
As a person who never cooked Phillipine specialities due to sheer lack of confidence, I find that Noriega makes cooking so easy! Her recipes are very easy to follow and her ingredients are readily available. Her bibingka recipe is absolutely to die for! Forget your diet and enjoy this one! If you put cuts of creme cheese on it before you bake it and omit the cheddar cheese....even more delicious!

My sister is one of the reviewers and she was the one that suggested this book to me. I LOVED IT!!! She even purchased the same book for our other sister. It was all the common dishes that we grew up with and now we can finally make it in a few simple steps. All the ingredients are those that you would already have in your pantry.... no more going to the "Pilipino market"! Thanks Tita Violeta!
