This book is a quick read. It seemed to jump around and not give depth to events. I did not recommend it to my Filipina wife. I was much more impressed with "In Our Image" by Stanley Karnow, and "Little Brown Brother" by Leon Wolfe. Several of the other cultural books of the Philippines include sections of history to help an "outsider" better understand these interesting and enjoyable peoples of the Philippines. This book is an adequate addition to the reading list
