Review
A true son of the Philippines, Stuart sees with an innate sense of the Filipino. the beauty of his Islands. With their vivid color and superb composition, his photographs inspire me. This book has a soul, and as such, it invites the viewer to see the Philippines in a very special way. The way both Filipinos and foreigners ought to see our Country. ----Jaime Zobel de Ayala
Born and raised as a child in the Philippines before immigrating to Canada, the photographer returns after twenty years and has a unique perspective on this country. He spent several months over a span of six years covering dozens of places, from the bustling capital to remote, untouched wilderness areas. While he covered every region, the photographer wanted to create a more personal, intimate portrait of the country, and not the typical, tourist-oriented book nor the 'day in the life' photojournalistic coverage. He captures the stunning beauty of the landscape and the quiet, simple beauty of the everyday scene. It is not a documentary but a celebration -- the most beautiful book on the country.
No other photographer can offer the same viewpoint. He alone has the combination of a native's natural affinity for the people, the country and its culture, and - because of his long absence - a "foreigner's" fascination and curiosity. Together with his sense of color and form, the body of images is truly unique--a personal impression. Through his fresh vision, foreigners and Filipinos alike 'rediscover' the Philippines.
Short captions provide some interesting cultural, historical and anecdotal information. Foreword written by Corazon Aquino, the former Phillippine president who restored democracy to the Philippines. Introduction written by Nick Joaquin, the National Artist and one of the most respected Filipino writers. --Publisher

He alone has the combination of a native's natural affinity for the people, the country and its culture, and - because of his long absence - a "foreigner's" fascination and curiosity. Together with his sense of color and form, honed over the last fifteen years as a photographic artist, the body of images is truly unique - a personal impression.
