sadly disappointed,
This review is from: Philips 15PF5120 15-Inch Flat Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
I bought the Philips 15" LCD TV Nov. 04 for $429 from Costco. It now has two black circles on the screen where the bulbs have self destructed. Not exactly 60,000 hour life expectancy of the bulb. When I called Philips, they said the warranty has expired, but if I were to return it to them, they would give me a factory reconditioned unit for mere $300. Considering I can buy a new one for about the same price, I declined their offer. What a disappointment.

The picture is OK. The sound varies widely. If set so the spoken word is at the right level, the background music overpowers the voices. Commercials blast you out of the room. Using a set of computer speakers instead of the on board speakers helps reduce the variation. The remote control died after a couple of months. Spent $5 or so on a battery and that wasn't the problem. Bought a new universal remote and have not been able to access all of the menu controls so I can't experiment any further with the sound. Can't seem to access all menu functions from the buttons on the TV. It would be worth the extra hundred bucks to buy a better brand.

I don't really hate the TV but I am very, very dissatisfied with their poor excuse for customer service. The TV itself has a good picture and the 1024x768 PC support is exactly what I was looking for. However, after owning the TV for less than a month, I noticed that the sound volume was not very good. There is an onscreen indicator for the sound. The sound volume would increase until the indicator got to around 50%. After that, it did not increase form 50% to 100% and the volume level remained too low. I called "customer service" (I use the term lightly). Their response was that the TV was probably defective and I needed to send it back to the factory. This typically means being without a TV for months, so I said that was not acceptable. I told them I expected them to send me a new unit and then I would return the defective unit as an RMA at their expense. They said Philips warranty only provided return to factory. I talked to a "supervisor" and she gave me the same song and dance. I will never buy another product from Philips!

Decent TV, Terrible Customer Service - Update,
This review is from: Philips 15PF5120 15-Inch Flat Panel LCD TV (Electronics)
The TV works fine, but the remote didn't work from day 1. I called Philips
* they made me copy and fax my receipt * wait two weeks for a confirm number * package the remote and mail it back at my expense ($8). * I still don't have a remote - 2 months after purchase. Update - 6 weeks after mailing in my broken remote (that was broken when it came out of the box) - I rec'd the same broken remote mailed back to me today. I jumped through every hoop imaginable and they just mailed it back. Avoid Philips at all cost. UPDATE - After finally replacing the remote at my own cost, I enjoyed the TV for about 10 months until the video component went out. I still have audio, but no picture which kind of defeats the purpose of have a teleVISION. I called Philips and was told (like the others) that the TV is not under warranty and I could purchase a refurb unit for $299. I'll never buy from Philips again.

This in not a great product sepcially the remote control is very
flimsy, the battery holder has some free room so that it create loose or no contact, I try to fix it but I am not sure how long it will last. This is the product quality control problem, another thing is viewing angle is very limit.and lastly is the color is flat. I do hope the PHILIPS will look into it!

Sound problems !!!,

I purchased two of these little TVs because the price was right at Sam's Club and so was the size. I have one on my kitchen counter and the other is on my computer table. The model at the store worked wonderfully and the picture display was clear and vibrant, so I was under the impression I would be getting an A+ product for an economical price. I should have remembered that old saying, you get what you pay for. I now realize that Phillips most likely unloaded their overstock to Sam's Club to get rid of due to the number of problems with this television, hence the affordable price. Within a few months after purchase, I began to have sound problems with both TVs which has continued to deteriorate to a abyssimal situation. I continue to adjust the volume according to what is playing at the time and now I have to turn the volume up to the highest setting to hear what is being said.
Since both items are long out of warranty, returns are no longer a question. I was stupid to hang on to these items and should have returned both of them as soon as the volume on the first TV began to give me problems. The picture on the TV is acceptable, the remote controls are problematic and the volume is horrendous. As for remote problems, I discovered the hard way that there is a little metal bar inside the case that holds the battery in place. This is very delicate and prone to breakage. If you drop the remote on the floor, the bar may break. If you take the battery out the wrong way, the bar will break. A simple fix is to solder it back to its original position. Change your battery very carefully otherwise this bar will break and your remote will be garbage. Oh, and on a final note, they are not HDTVs. They don't pick up any of the digital channels, so the little HDTV in the lower right hand corner is a flat out lie. FFFFFFFFFFF UPDATE: The TV just died. Turned it on, the picture was there for a few seconds and then went black. BLACK SCREEN. I will never buy a Phillips product again. These TVs have been disappointing the entire time I have had them.

I bought this little TV 1-1/2 years ago. I had no problems with it and was quite happy. . . Until I came home this evening and - voila! - no picture. Sound is fine but screen is black. It was around $400 which isn't a fortune, but I certainly expect more life than that. I'm sure that trying to get it repaired is not worth my time, money or aggravation. Believe me, I will never, ever buy a Philips product again!!

I bought this LCD TV hoping to hookup to my laptop, purchased the cable that was in the instruction manual and it didn't work. Screen resolution was OK, I've seen better now. This is old school LCD TV, so I returned it when the unit could not hookup to my laptop.

I bought this tv a year ago, and it works pretty well as a tv, but I cannot get it to work with my computer, which was one of the selling points. I have tried several cables and all possible menu setting combinations; it just won't work. As a tv, the picture and sound are quite good. The remote is not easy to use, and its battery life is especially short, plus it takes expensive little batteries.
