The 20-inch set plays DVDs, CDs, and MP3 CDs, letting you enjoy the best movies and music right from one device. The set's Real Flat picture tube increases viable viewing angles while reducing reflected ambient light to create a brighter and crisper image. The 20DV693R's digital comb filter removes blurred edges between colors and reduces dot crawl (tiny, moving dots of color along a sharp color separation in a vertical line, as in a depiction of a character's striped t-shirt).

A shadow mask is a thin sheet of perforated metal behind the screen that restricts electron flow, each hole in the sheet corresponding to a single pixel. An Invar mask uses an alloy that's especially resistant to the high temperatures generated by the electron beam, allowing in a brighter, clearer picture.

A hallmark of the set, its QuadraSurf remote control lets you personalize and customize your channel surfing and TV viewing by family member or program theme. QuadraSurf delivers your favorite television shows at the press of a button.

A component-video input grants optimum connection with a compatible DVD player, while standard composite- and S-video inputs accommodate all DVD players. You can choose between a set of rear AV inputs and a set of side AV inputs for extra convenience.

Other 20DV693R features include a 240-minute sleep timer, AutoPicture (which optimizes brightness, contrast, color, tint, and sharpness), AutoLock (which uses V-Chip technology for parental control), and AutoSound (which lets you select settings for voice, music, movies, or custom). Incredible Surround simulates surround sound from the set's two speakers, while bass and treble controls let you adjust the sound to your taste. A side-panel headphone jack affords private listening.

I'd been holding off on buying a second television set until I felt the technology I wanted had become a bit less expensive. What a pleasure it was to find a television set that not only met this criteria but offered better than expected picture and sound.

This set sounds and looks great. I easily hooked it up to a three speaker system and have been enjoying dvds, cds, etc. Again, this is a great second television; I highly recommend this product.

We purchased this TV at a department store, not at Amazon. Loved it...GREAT picture,etc. However, after about 6-8 months, the DVD players skips too much to watch DVDs anymore and the TV turns itself off when you turn it on - you have to hit 'on' twice. After talking to Philips, it does have a year free parts replacement, but we'll have to pay for someone to come out and look at it (or haul it down the stairs and into a store). I guess were lucky we have an extra DVD player in the house!

I received my Philips 20" TV as a service award from work. My kids enjoyed watching DVD movies on it for about one month. We also enjoyed listening to CDs. Now, after only one month of using, the DVD no longer works and I have to haul it to a service center for repair! :-(
