Wonderful color,

I'm sorry the previous reviewer had a bad experience with Philips, I however have had great luck with this brand.
I have had 3 Philips Televisions, (each progressivly larger) and when I decided to transistion to an HDTV I was looking at all the sets side by side, and actually did like the Philips, and Samsung pictures the best. However the Philips was the least expensive, and I have had good luck with them. The set is large and heavy, so be ready for that. When I plugged it in, and programmed the channels, I founnd about 10 that I didn't know I had, and they were the HD channels. Well I watched a PBS channel, (WGBH in Boston) and I was wowed! it was a documentary on squids and octopi in the ocean, and the colors were fantastic, and the sharpness was unbelieveable. You almost could imagine reaching out to touch what was on the screen. What's neat is your seeing DVD quality television shows through cable. And while I'm speaking of DVD's, when I watch my movies on that medium, the picture quality is better than that on a standard television. SO you will love this set even if you can't get digital cable, and just watch DVD movies. As an aside, I only rated it 4 stars instead of the 5 I would like to give it, as I'm trying to be conservative since I've only had it a month, and do believe it will not have any issues. I hope this has helped someone.

Worst TV ever,

After getting my tax return in 2005 I decided I wanted a nice new TV. I ended up buying the Philips because I thought it was a good brand ( I was wrong ). I got the TV is June of 2005 and in August my right speaker went out. A couple days later it came back on... okay I thought.. I'll forget about it. In November of 2005 while watching the TV it turned off.. Never to come back on. It took until the beginning of December to get it into the shop. After a thousand and one problems with Philips (they didn't want to pay for the repairs) It is now the 24th of March and I still do not have my TV back. I found out from the repair shop that Philips had changed hardware in the middle of making the TV which is why it could not be fixed. Philips made the repair shop change about a thousand different things in the TV before they admitted it was there fault. I have never experienced such horrible customer service in my life, all of the people I talked to were complete idiots. I will NEVER buy another Philips product or any of there subsidiaries. I strongly recommend staying away from Philips, buy a Toshiba. I hope this saves you from going through the problems that I have faced. I rate this TV Zero, but Amazon is making me rate it at least a 1

Disappointed with longevity,
This review is from: Philips 30PW9100D 30" Widescreen HDtv (Electronics)
Bought this tv about about 3 years ago (early 2006) ~$650. It had a problem (screen went black) 2 years later (just barely inside the warranty), that was fixed... then recently (mid 2009), the same problem occurred, but now well out of warranty. I will never buy another Philips product again. I should spent a bit more money and gotten a more reliable brand (eg. Sony, Panansonic, etc...)

This TV is outright horrible. Do not buy this TV. I bought it fall of 2006 after coming home from Iraq. It was on clearance for $500 at Target. The TV and picture were outstanding with my Xbox 360. Less than 5 weeks later, the TV would not turn on anymore. I called the Phillips Customer Service center, considered my warranty, and there was 1 authorized repairperson in the city. They took my TV and it took them 3 months to repair it. I constantly called to check on the status, but they said they were very busy with TV repairs.
Less than 1 year after the repair, the TV is acting up again. It will spontansly turn off, volume will flucuate, picture will resize, I swear we have a ghost, but no it's just the TV. The volume really sucks. The TV is super heavy and awkward as well. It weighs about 60lbs, and unless you have really long arms, will require a buddy to lift. CALL TO ACTION: Avoid this cheap TV. Consider any other company aside from Phillips, their customer service line was horrific. There are alternatives out there that are cheaper and lighter than this one. If there was any good thing about it, it was the color was awesome.

Worked for less than 5 months...,

So I bought the TV back in May and wasn't overly impressed by the picture when I got it in my house but I figured it was because I didn't have the greatest digital media to demonstrate it's power. I kept buying different items to try and see something great in the TV but nothing really ever came. I kept it because it was almost $800 and I didn't have much choice.
In late August I noticed a clicking noise coming from something around the power source of the television that would continue for 10-15 seconds after turning the set off. The TV was still working fine so I made nothing of it until in the middle of a game of Halo the set just shut off. It wouldn't turn back on unless I switched outlets. Once I got it turned back on, it only stayed on for 2-3 minutes. I called Philips to try and see if maybe I had a timer set or something so they instructed me on how to reset the TV entirely and I did that and nothing changed. I scheduled a service visit with my local service center. The TV was picked up on September 29th and taken to the shop to be repaired. They said it would take 10-14 days. Two weeks after the set was taken, I called to check in on the status and they had nothing. Called again another week later and they told me a circuitboard had been ordered. Called another week later and this time they said that circuitboard was on BACKORDER and could take another 2-3 weeks before it even comes in then God knows how long before the service center decides to even fix it. After a few calls to Philips themselves complaining of the ridiculously slow service and little to no follow up from the repair center, I am finally close to getting either a replacement (I hope not) or a refund (I hope so). I knew Philips was an iffy brand when I bought it and now my fears have been realized. From now on I'll stick with Sony, Panasonic or Toshiba and a service plan.
