A component-video input supports output from a compatible DVD player or DTV set-top box for superb color purity, crisp color detail, and reduced color noise. The unit uses a UR remote control, which limits interference between the audio and video signal to give you the purest audio and video performance.
The set uses a Black Matrix, high-contrast tube, which improves contrast by depositing carbon on the screen between the phosphor dots. Black Matrix screens appear much darker than ordinary screens and are far less prone to picture washout.
This television also uses a sophisticated comb filter, which improves the quality of incoming video signals by better separating the signal into its basic qualities: chrominance and luminance. A comb filter works on signals that are transmitted via either composite video or RF connections.
Scan velocity modulation is a picture-enhancing feature that affects the speed of the electron gun as it paints each horizontal line of information. It optimizes the sharpness of the picture by slowing down the speed of the gun during transitions between dark and light portions of the picture.

This review is from: Philips 32RF50S 32" Flat Screen TV (Electronics)
I bought this TV 1.5 years ago. I thought it was great for the first few months, then I gradually noticed that the picture just didn't seem as clear anymore. Now when I watch my digital cable, I can't even read small text on the screen because it is so blurry. Same thing for DVDs...forget about reading subtitles! It's very annoying and frustrating. I'm not sure what exactly is wrong with it, but I am certainly NOT happy with my TV now. I contemplated buying the Sony WEGA model, but opted not too because of the price increase. Now I see it probably would have been worth it. No more Phillips products for me. One other con, the TV is HUGE and HEAVY It's so awkward to carry, I almost killed myself moving it last summer.
