Color Temperature

Color temperature is a measure of the light bulb's color when illuminated, and is measured in degrees Kelvin. The higher the number, the whiter, and then bluer, or cooler. The lower the number, the more yellow, or warmer the color. The whiteness of the light itself creates a mood in the lighted space.

Color is a personal preference. Select a bulb that creates the environment you desire for the application.

The color of the light is great, but man these things produce a narrow beam of light. Some other reviewers mentioned that these are more like spotlights, than floodlights and that is no exaggeration. I have two cans mounted about 8 feet apart and I have high ceilings so I thought these would be fine, but I was so very wrong. I had two bright spots with a very dark area between.

Put two of these in our basement bathroom with no windows. It turned a dark and dingy bathroom into a very bright, clear and welcoming space. And the daylight color simulated a room with open windows very well. Very satisfied, expensive but well worth the cost if you have recessed lighting. Was worried that the individual LEDs won't diffuse well, but it does, just like a regular bulb. Just don't look directly into the light or it will blind you temporarily.

My kitchen and pantry have no fewer than 15 ceiling lights that take 75-watt halogen bulbs. I'm sure you can do the math on replacement cost. I started with one of these to see how we liked the light. I replaced one in a prominent spot and didn't tell anyone to see if anybody noticed the different quality of light. (I had tried this experiment with compact flourescents and the fam made me change it back.) After a week or two, nobody had commented on the light. It is slightly brighter and possibly a little less warm than the equivalent halogen bulb, but it's perfectly fine. I then ordered a handful more.

At 15 cents/Kwh and 4 hours a day, the energy savings is over $13/year. The available replacement bulbs only last a year and cost $6 or more. Over the life of one bulb, I should save more than $300.

They also generate significantly less heat, which is welcome when cooking in the summer.

I was slow to the LED light scene because the initial offerings were dim and the color looked awful (worse than CF by far). Philips has totally fixed it.

I have 75PAR30L incandescent bulbs in my kitchen fixtures, and when you put one of these philips bulbs in, you can't tell the difference, other than that the fixture gets much less hot, and all 6 of them in my kitchen use less power than a single incandescent. The color temperature and brightness is a perfect match for the incandescent - you can even mix and match them and not tell.

If you're going to buy some of these, get what you need, because they frequently go on backorder (sometimes for weeks), and they're difficult to find at home stores.

These are very bright for the low wattage they use. However, they are more like spotlights. They don't diffuse the light, so it's directed on the spot it's facing. For a large room, we have four of these, so that results in shadows.

Other than the premium price, I like almost everything about these Philips 420315 LED bulbs. They are well-built, and produce a good flood beam that appear to be truly 3000K in color temperature. They even dim down as well as any LED bulb I've tried.

The only problem is they flicker badly and basically will not stay on when used with a Lutron Maestro dimmer. I've tried a single LED bulb, and up to 6 all-LED bulbs in the same circuit - it doesn't work. The only solution is to have at least one incandescent bulb in the load, and then it will dim properly. It's a shame, since I installed Lutron Maestro dimmers everywhere in my house, and now I will just have to deal with having one 75W bulb for every Lutron circuit, or use these bulbs in non-dimming circuits.

If it would have worked with Lutron Maestro dimmers, I would have given it a full 5 stars.

If only Edison invented this bulb he would have saved us all thousands. It's perfect warm white light, not yellow and definitely not cold. Spend the $$ and you'll definitely be impressed!! Use Amazon packaging too, it'll save time and the enviornment.

Rebuilding a kitchen and installed 8 of these (6x 75w plus 2 x 65w equivalent) flood light bulbs in recessed ceiling cans.
I used 'Bright White (3000K)' rather than 'daylight' to get a warmer lighting effect.
Light bulb is dimmable as advertized using a standard wall mounted dimmer switch.

Total wattage for all 8 bulbs together is 102w - i.e. equivalent to 1 x 100w incandescent light bulb!
Also much lower heat build-up.

I do not expect to have to change a kitchen light bulb in my lifetime!
