Good warm white color, like a soft white incandescent.

People say they hear a humming when they use a dimmer with it, But I have no humming sounds here.

I have previously tested the Philips 432732 11-watt A19 LED Bulb and liked it very much. The bulb is compact and gives out nearly omni-directional light, making it suitable as replacement for 60W A19 incandescent bulb. The only problem I have is that, when used in a dimmer-controlled light fixture, it emits a faint humming sound. Recently I purchased this Philips 423491 11-watt A19 LED bulb, thinking it is the same model. I was surprised to see the box I received is marked '880 lumens', instead of 830 for the previous version.

In side-by-side comparison, however, the two versions appear to be equally bright. This is because human eyes cannot notice a mere 6% increase in brightness, anyway. See the picture I uploaded to `Customer Images' section, with dimmer at maximum power. The only noticeable difference is that the lamp shade for the new LED bulb appears a little bit brighter. So the increase in luminosity rating does seem to be real.

Electrically, both the old and new bulbs behave exactly the same according to my P4460 Kill A Watt Electricity Usage Monitor: The measured power consumption toggles between 11 and 12W. The power factor starts from PF=0.95 initially, but drops to 0.87 when warm. Apparently the new bulb has exactly the same power converter stage, but it uses LEDs with higher efficacy. That's how it can generate more light with the same power consumption.

I am disappointed.
It claims to be silent, it is not.
This is the second LED 100 W equivalent (1600+ lumens) lamp I have bought, and the second disappointment.
Pros: low power, instant on (the last one hesitates about a second before turning on), decent light, not bigger than an incandecent.
Cons: fine print takes away many of the places I'd like to use it (no enclosed fixtures, not where exposed to water (outdoors, bathrooms) etc), heavy (can't use it in spring balanced fixtures), faint buzz in non-dimmed fixtures, clearly audible buzz in dimmed fixtures.

The box mentions you should go to their website (don't think I'm allowed to mention it) to find out which dimmers it works with. How many people actually know what model dimmer is built into their light switch? but worse, the list has maybe 20 dimmer models listed out of the hundreds available, but they don't include any for this model lamp. In fact, if you look at their web site, it is as if they don't even admit to making this lamp! Try searching for the model number: 9290002596, it is not there. Or try the ordering number: BC19A21, also can't be found.

How long until we can buy a high efficiency lamp that does everything an old cheap incandescent can do?

With the price of LED's coming down, I experimented with this bulb and became a huge fan.

I bought this alongside the cheaper Cree bulbs that are now available for $5. This bulb is three times as expensive, but hands down beats the Cree bulb in terms of light quality and dimmability. The Cree bulb is good but this bulb is simply outstanding. This bulb is also more durable. The Cree bulb is a bit thin, easily breakable, and has a sticky coating which is quite annoying as it makes it collect dust and be hard to clean. This bulb has a smooth coating that does not attract dust and is easy to clean.

I've tested this bulb both in recessed light fixtures, and normal lamps, and it works great in both. One thing that I love is that the light is evenly distributed in different directions, which means that you can look directly at the bulb from a distance without it looking overpoweringly bright, and it casts a gentle, even light.

The light color / temperature is very close to an incandescent. I cannot distinguish it when the bulb is not dimmed.

On to dimming. I don't know much about the different types of dimmers so I can't comment about how it works in different kinds. The bulb dims smoothly and gracefully, and it gets quite dim (the lowest setting is quite dim) which is nice. There are two caveats to dimming. On rare occasions (I'd say about 1 out of 10 times I do this), if I have the dimmer turned down the whole way, and turn the lights on, occasionally one or two bulbs will flicker. Also, once in a while, when I've turned the dimmer down, one bulb would freeze at a higher brightness. Either way, the problem was quickly remedied by sliding the dimmer up and then back down. A very minor complaint.

These light bulbs work great. They are more expensive then CFL but I think the light they put off looks better. They are also dimmable which is a plus.

It claims to emit 830 lumens, but it seems a bit dimmer than the 12.5 Watt version claiming 800 lumens. Not a lot dimmer, just a bit. (It could simply be due to the "soft white" feature.) I like it because it does not cast the 3 bars of shadow that the 12.5 Watt original did. Even light, good white color. Best LED bulb yet.
