Color Temperature

Color temperature is a measure of the light bulb's color when illuminated, and is measured in degrees Kelvin. The higher the number, the whiter, and then bluer, or cooler. The lower the number, the more yellow, or warmer the color. The whiteness of the light itself creates a mood in the lighted space.

Color is a personal preference. Select a bulb that creates the environment you desire for the application.

I would buy again, I just wish they weren't so darn expensive!
J. Fenton
It's quiet but I don't have a dimmer so I don't know how that will affect the noise from the fan.
Jeff Scott
It is amazingly bright and the color is just right; not too blue, just a nice warm color.

I have installed nearly 40 of these LEDs to replace the 50w halogen bulbs that the builder left behind. The colour of these lights is pleasant. It is not quite as yellow as the halogen bulbs, but neither is it the stark white LEDs used to be. The biggest difference we notice daily is the lack of heat put off by these bulbs. Prior to their replacement, the halogen bulbs used to heat a room any time the lights were turned on. It got so bad, that if I left the dining room lights on (where the thermostat is), the AC would kick in. We have yet to see a power bill since installing the LEDs, but the Black & Decker power monitor mounted outside the house proves how little electricity they use.

Overall, a pricey project, but one we are happy to have completed.

These bulbs were great when they worked, which was for an hour.

Then, all 3 of my 120V to 12V transformers just popped.

The transformers are rated to 50W, so they were not overloaded. BUT, they were under-loaded! Traditional transformers have a minimum AND a maximum wattage, and these are below the minimums of most.

I replaced the transformers with GE transformers rated between 3W and 60W, so they will drive 3W LEDs all the way up to 50W+ halogens. The upgraded transformers also removed any hint of flickering, too.

All in all, these are basically identical in brightness and color temp to the 50W halogens they replaced. Side by side, I could not tell which was which. This is great for me, as instead of using 150W, I use 30W. Also these put out way less heat, saving even more energy to remove that heat.

Your results may be better, but I experienced terrible flickering with these bulbs, even with an LED-compatible dimmer. Note that the frustration-free pack is a SPOT light not a flood.

LED bulbs are getting better, with higher outputs and declining prices but a perennial problem remains--the darn things don't dim very well. These lamps appear to be the newer design from Philips at 10 watts with a 500 or so lumen output and pricing on Amazon that varies daily from $18 to $21. I bought 30 of them for my office and home. Using three different types of dimmer in the office they flicker annoyingly--not dimmable worth a darn. Flashing at all dim levels. Solution--take out the dimmers and put in snap switches. At home where I often have light on dim--no luck at all. They don't dim far down enough.
Overall, decent light if you don't need to dim them. But if you do, they are not useable.

Forget about saving energy. The savings are minimal even in the long term.

What these bulbs are about is brightness. At 10 watts, I can use this bulb in a fixture that takes 20 watts maximum and they are 2 to 3 times brighter than the 20 watt halogens.

5 of these will illuminate a kitchen with many windows during the daytime in Arizona with no problem.

I got it from home depot where they just reduced its price to 21 dollars and are supposed to last longer than halogens so that makes the price-comparison more reasonable because a 20 watt halogen is about 6 dollars so if you replace a halogen 4 times, it pays for itself.

I wish amazon would stock them better and adjust the price competitively.

Highly recommended!

These LED bulbs dim very well, and are extremely bright. So bright that they could really hurt your eyes to look at when the dimmer is turned up all the way! I bought a 3-light ProTrack light kit from LampsPlus, and these work very well with it. Overall, these seem as good as halogen bulbs to me. Maybe not as warm a glow, but certainly bright, steady, and cheerful.

I purchased these as a replacement for 50 watt halogen bulbs. They produce just as much light, but at a fraction of the energy use. The lights are dimmable if you need that function. These bulbs are a bit cheaper than buying them at the store, but with two day shipping, I still say money. My one complaint is the size of the package. It is unnecessarily big for housing a single bulb. I know this is not the fault of amazon, but the manufacturer should be a little more conscious of too much packaging for such a small item.

these Phillips 10 w LEDs have a nice warm white light (2700K). They are brighter than all my 35 w halogens and most of my 50 w halogens. These are spot lights, not floods, but Amazon offers the flood version at a slightly higher price. The spot works in most applications as it is more like a medium flood pattern.
