Great TV, great image,

This review is from: Philips 52PFL7403D/27 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I just bought this tv and had it installed yesterday! I was unsure wheter my TV rack would hold it (it was build to hold a 42"), but it's doing just fine! This TV actually feel almost as heavy as my 2007 42", which I suppose is due to new materials used.
The instalation is a breeze. It comes with a connections guide (in case you need one), and taking it out of the box couldn't be easier. You might think that getting a 52" tv out of the box might be something short of a suicidal thing, but it's actually very very easy! The whole box comes out from the top, leavint the TV sitting neatly on it's stand on the floor, ready to be picked up and be placed wherever. After you plug it in, a settings assistant comes up, and helps you set up the picture the way you like it, without messing with numbers or complicated settings. You just look at which of the 2 pictures shown you like better, and select it. Do this 5 times, and you're set. Off course, you can edit all the little details later. Installing all the channels took around 2-3 minutes, and I have about 200 channels, between digital and analog. No issues here. It's also nice and fast to change channels. Like that. Some TVs take a long time to change channels, don't know why. The picture is GREAT. If you've never seen the image of a 1080p 120hz TV before, check it out. Watching a HD movie on this is as good as it gets, and in my opinion, the quality beats other more expensive brands. Another nice feature is that the speakers are all in the back, so you don't see them, but they actually sound as good as if they were right there. Again, not sure how they do this. All and all, very happy with this TV. Recommend for anyone who wants a nice movie experience at home, or enjoy playing Tennis with their Wii, and always complain that 42" "just isn't enough" :)

We bought this television from the Navy Exchange in April 2008, before it really went into production. We waited 4 months for its arrival, and it was worth every minute of that wait. The natural motion processors make the picture so realistic that it's like you're looking through a window at real people. The perfect pixel system gives you a picture that's so clear, you won't ever be able to watch a plain tv again. There are enough personalized settings that, no matter what your taste, you'll be able to set the picture up exactly the way you like it.
We did have one small problem with the set: It would randomly turn itself off. The set came right back on every time, but it was a real pain. We called the support number listed on the website and were pleased to find an easy fix. Steve, the support guy, gave us a downloadable file to upgrade the tv's software. We put it on a memory stick, popped it into the USB port of the tv, and it automatically upgraded the tv without any problems at all. The problem is gone now and we're back to watching tv with a smile. Please note that these newer tv's require software updates from time to time. You're responsible for keeping it upgraded, so check back frequently. If you do need to call the nice people at Philips, please be sure to have your model and serial number handy. It makes things a lot easier.Philips 52PFL7403D/27 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV

Philips hits a home run!,

I received the Philips 52" 120Hz LCD TV yesterday morning and I have to say I am very pleased with my purchase. It has loads of connectors for all your toys and was so simple to setup, the interface is very intuitive. I watched movies, TV and played games on it for 16 hours straight yesterday. I have my upconvert DVD player, Blueray, PS3 and PC connected to this TV and all I can say is WOW. Quality materials, beautiful design and the picture and sound are amazing! The hidden 4 speakers do a great job (I couldn't believe it). The picture quality is amazing, brings all my DVD's to the next level, blueray is out of this world, PS3 is a dream on this thing! Black levels are excellent, no artifacting during PC gameplay, this TV is fast enough to keep up and beyond!
This TV is feature packed, unbelievable value for money, has fully adjustable settings, 2ms response, 33,000:1 contrast, 120 Hz, etc. I have absolutely no complaints, I couldn't be happier! If you are thinking of a 52" LCD and this is in your budget then don't think about it, buy it! You won't be sorry!

Surprise Purchase Turned Out Great,
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7403D/27 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I dont usually write too much reviews, unless I am really impressed. I did a lot of research to buy a big screen 52 inch LCD from a trusty Sony Trinitron. I first bought a Sharp 52 inch LCD 1080p (non 120hz) after research due to the style, the narrow bezel and frame, and good reviews of the picture quality from experts. However, I had to return 2 sets, one had a white line in the middle, and the second one had no picture after a few uses. Go figure. Then I researched bigger brands such as Sony, Samsung, but this one fit my budget. However, I hesitated, due to the brand Philips, which I was not familiar with. But, due to my budget, I bought it and was a great purchase so far. The set up was easy and I had no issues after installing it. During my research, I read articles by experts that 120hz does not make a big difference and may not be cost effective. However, WOW...I was impressed at the smooth movements it produced. I mean you can really notice it. The only issue I had, if you can even call it an issue, is that since the picture and movement is soooo clear, I felt that home movie theatre experience is now gone. The pictures are too clear and smooth unlike when you are in a theatre. Oh well, Im getting used to it and its super nice and I figure this is the wave of the future.
Only cons: 1) when you choose your components using only the "source" button, the screen turns black while the source box disappears, and you have to repress the button for the source box to reappear, and so on (this causes an unnecessary lag). An easy fix is just scrowing down the source box with the arrow buttons, but I think it would be easy to just press and repress the source button for changing components. Not a big deal, but on the Sharp you can flick through the sources using only the source button rather quickly; 2) when you turn the tv on, its blue with the "Philips" logo and lags before the picture comes out (waste of time, and feels like a computer monitor not a tv); 3) when you turn the tv off, it goes black then blue before shutting off (ditto #2 - hey Philips, what for?); and 4) asthetically, I feel the Sharp, Sony, Samsung has better looks and packaging, although the Philips looks tough and heavy :(. It is thicker in depth too than Sharp. And whats with that clear plastic frame that borders the bezel. Does this serve a purpose??? Its not like it makes the tv look better asthetically or anything. All in all, this was a GREAT purchase for the mony and thats what counts! The picture is good and smooth and the unit seems to be reliable for now. I really hope it survives for a long time. I recommend this unit.

We bought this TV against my better judgement, because of the price. The set itself is rather good looking, and the set-up is relatively a breeze. I can see that this brand and model are geared more towards people who aren't to be bothered by complex features and advanced menu functions. I, however, am.
While this set may boast some of the same technologies as other, higher-quality sets, the technology isn't quite the same. The 120 Hz HD "Natural Motion" feature just isn't as refined as it is on other sets. But the worst is the HD "Pixel Perfect" feature that is supposed to make everything sharper. Unfortunately, this is like going into a remedial photo editing program and using the Sharpen Image tool about 5 times too many (if any of you have played around with editing your photos, you may know what I'm talking about). The result is that a lot of times, you get the dreaded "halo effect" around edges. Sometimes this benefits the picture with bolder, simpler images, but when there are lots of smaller details, this actually ends up making the picture worse. Pixel Perfect has actually made certain DVD text impossible to read. That's completely unacceptable. I have to say that the contrast in this TV is pretty poor. The one plus about this TV is that the sound system is OUTSTANDING. They are probably among the most powerful speakers ever to be mated to an LCD TV. With all that said, this set will suit you fine if you just want a just-capable-enough set with a big picture and impressive sound, but those with a more discerning eye will definitely need to look somewhere else.

I bought this TV after my Optoma 50" DLP died on me. I was already used to viewing HD on a 50" screen, so didn't expect to see much difference. But the LCD 1080p 120Hz is something else! I've been watching old movies because the look so crisp. I watched Edward Scissorhands as though I'd never seen it before, and I could make out every line in Pacino's bloodshot eyes in Dog Day Afternoon. I'm sure that last one has been digitally remastered before it ran on HD cable, but WOW!
On the negative side, I still haven't figured out some of the controls, and it doesn't seem to be possible to turn off some of the automatic adjustments. For instance, I programed my Harmony remote to toggle all my equipment between watching a DVD and watching cable, but the TV starts wandering through inputs as soon as the DVD player gets turned off. What's worse is that it only cycles to the end of the list and quits if it doesn't find a valid video signal. It does this despite the fact that my Harmony requests the valid input. I'll be able to adjust my Harmony to work around this, I think, but it's a pain. All in all, I'm very happy with the new TV. It may take me some time to find my favorite settings, but it's not a bad problem to have.

We bought this TV from SAMS Club and it has the highest ranking of the most important features for LCD tvs; Resolution 33,0000 to 1, 2ms response, 120 hz, and a great price. I can't stop talking about the "real life" picture. I feel as if I am standing on the sidewalk watching the action in a movie. The sports are crystal clear and no blurring. What a great picture!!!

Best Multisystem TV,
By
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7403D/27 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Note that this TV will work with 110- 220V and with NTSC as well as PAL signal- thus this is a truly multisystem TV and that was a key criterion for me. I compared this also to the only somewhat multisytem TV on the market(Sharp) Additionally:
Positives: 1. VERY natural picture- people have mentioned the 3D effect in HD- it is true, you can actually feel the depth in the studio behind the newscaster. Natural skin tones - very comfortable on the eye. Sharp had a more "smudged" color feel 2. Decent SD. Since it is 52" please do not sit nearer than 8 feet to view SD or you will be disappointed in any 52" TV, but I think this TV does a good job on SD. 3. Very easy set up- no need to spend $ on professional calibration. The Sharp I had to keep calibrating again and again. 4. Enough inputs options. 4 HDMIs, 2 component, 1 S and 1 Composite, 1 USB. No computer input though unless use DVI 5. Comes with swivel stand 6. Great in bright light, although in high amount of sunlight the contrast gets washed out. Negatives: 1. Digital natural motion and 120Hz don't seem to make much of a difference for me. MAybe there is something to it- I am yet to see it clearly. 2. Picture gets grayer as you move away from the center of the TV. Sharp had less of an issue 3. Decent profile/ looks- simple black bezel, but Sharp is thinner and lighter and better looking though. This one is heavy- much more than Sharp As for the Sony and Samsung enthusiasts, please go for them if you have the extra $, they definitely have a better picture and you should judge the price/ value equation. I had to rule them out as they are not Multisystem. Finally I struggled a lot about Plasma vs. LCD (over >6 months actually), ultimately the weight, power requirement and bright light compatibility moved me in favor of LCD. Godd luck!

great tv for the money,
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7403D/27 52-Inch 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV (Electronics)
I got this tv at Sam's about a month ago for $1300. 52" screen looks just as good as my dads led lcd that he paid 4k. There may be a difference when software catches up. I just thought I would share because the price shown here is considerably more than what I paid. I Have a 72" mitsi dlp also and the pictures are the same as far as quality. Phillips makes a great product.
