5.0 out of 5 stars This is the LCD TV you are looking for.
First of all, this is my first HD LCD TV. I've done research for the last year trying to find the right TV for the right price.

After looking at Sony, Samsung, Sharp LCD's and the Samsung LED DLP, I stumbled upon the Philips 2PFL7422D on the web. After doing some research on this TV I found that it had all the pro's of the other big name brands but with...

3.0 out of 5 stars Problem right out of the box
We bought this TV right before Christmas, 2007. It had a nice shiny, black look to it. The picture quality was awesome, but unfortunately the color kept fluctuating. The rich reds and flesh tones would fade to pale, pasty images a couple of times a minute. Phillips said the problem could not be the TV if the Menu screen did not fluctuate. First of all, this is my first HD LCD TV. I've done research for the last year trying to find the right TV for the right price.

After looking at Sony, Samsung, Sharp LCD's and the Samsung LED DLP, I stumbled upon the Philips 2PFL7422D on the web. After doing some research on this TV I found that it had all the pro's of the other big name brands but with out any of the con's, such as banding(Sharp) or clouding(Sony)(Note, this information was gathered from other reviews, I had not seen either of these phenomenon's my self).

I'm very happy with this TV. One thing I really like it the screen isn't shiny like Samsung's high end models I was also interested in. My TV is in a very bright location with lot of windows and a shiny screen was a really turn off even though the Samsung's LCD's review very well.

Some things to be aware of is the refresh is 60hMz (120hMz is the current high mark) and the HDMI is 1.0, not 1.3. Also the remote feels cheap but is easy to use.

I'm not a audio/video buff by any means, but I do understand the tech. I have a Xbox 360 and Wii hooked up, both through component cable, and they work great. I played Guitar hero 2 and didn't notice any delay between picture and sound. I also connected it to Comcast Digital and the HD looks great. Watched football this weekend and didn't notice any blur.

If your looking for high quality at a great value, check this TV out.

This is an excellent TV. Excellent picture quality. Sound is good, but with such a tv, surround sound is a must to maximize value.

The only problem is it weighs a bloody ton at 117 lb. By comparison samsung weighs only abt 65 lbs.

3.0 out of 5 stars Problem right out of the box, March 9, 2008
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7422D/37 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
We bought this TV right before Christmas, 2007. It had a nice shiny, black look to it. The picture quality was awesome, but unfortunately the color kept fluctuating. The rich reds and flesh tones would fade to pale, pasty images a couple of times a minute. Phillips said the problem could not be the TV if the Menu screen did not fluctuate. The Menu screen displayed in only blues and greys and we never saw fluctuation in this screen.

In order to give the TV the benefit of the doubt, we switched from cable TV to DISH. We even replaced all the coax cable running from the satellite to the TV without success.

So we called Phillips again and were transferred to a Magnavox division who had a service company call us. This company told me to call an 800 number for another service company as they were 45 miles away in Fresno, California, and could not afford to come to my house based on what Phillips paid them for service. Apparently, the repair shops in Oakhurst where I live were not contracted with Phillips.

At this point we took the TV back to CostCo as it was within their 90 day return period. We bought a Sharp Aquos and the colors are fine.

Another problem we had with the Phillips was the limited viewing angle. We understand that LCD TV's are supposed to have 176 degree viewing angle, but unless you were pretty much in front of the TV, the image and the colors degraded pretty badly.

My husband never did like the remote. When you picked it up and pointed it at the TV, it was always backwards.

Honestly, if the TV had worked right out of the box, we would have loved it. The picture quality and the colors (when they weren't fluctating)seemed very natural. I liked the ease with which you could change from one format to another.

i bought this television about a month ago. i bought a refurbished from the manufacturer for a greatly reduced cost ($1,400) but that's beside the point. the television is great for the cost even if you buy it new from Amazon -- a nice price as well. the first thing i'd do is go to AVS forums and search for this television to get the various setting codes for the picture. that'll save you a lot of time. next, get a surround sound system as the speakers on this television are barely adequate (i went with Onkyo and am happy). a universal remote is a must (Logitech Harmony is the way to go -- again, i bought a 659 refurbished here on Amazon for about $40 -- great remote).

i sit about 11 - 12 feet away and we play the Wii from about 8 feet. both seem just right. i watched the NCAA tourney in HD last week and the Master's Golf tourney this week. i notice that the standard definition channels don't look very good. in fact, i think my old television upstairs looks much better on standard definition. so i am only watching HD programming on this LCD. if i had to watch a lot of standard definition programming then i probably wouldn't have bought this television and i might have given it 3 or 4 stars instead. on the other hand, the deal was too good to pass up and HD looks just terrific.

5.0 out of 5 stars AWESOME TV, March 10, 2008

I have had this tv for about a month now and love it. It is a really good deal. I had to tinker about with the picture settings and found exactly the settings I wanted. This LCD does NOT have a glossy screen. That is GREAT for me because I have a window behind the television. Do yourself a favor and buy this.

The remote is a tad awkward, I suggest you get a Harmony Remote. I am also using an Onkyo system as my surround sound. Really sweet T.V.

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't walk, RUN from this product!, October 19, 2009
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7422D/37 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
Great T.V. that we bought direct from Philips. Didn't worry about an extended warranty because we weren't offered one. We have bought other Philips products in the past and never bothered to look at online reviews. I really wish I had. We had the t.v for exactly 15 months, and it broke. Customer Service is a nightmare. "No warranty, no service!" $150.00 later, after having to hunt down a "certified repair center", pay them to come out to get the set, then diagonse that it's the LCD itself. The tech laughed at me when I told him it was a Philips to begin with. I wasn't too surprised when they came back with the diagnosis after he explained that Philips should not be manufacturing any T.V. period. They've seen this way too many times with the Plasma and LCD t.v.'s since 2005. No parts, no service, no way to fix what's broken without basically purchasing a whole new television. To add insult to injury, I now have to pay to dump it. We're very upset that we paid so much for what amounts to a giant paper weight. Do NOT buy Philips if you don't want to waste an enormous amount of money! If you do, I'll most likely see you in about 7-15 months (if you're lucky!) from now adding your negative review to this site. =(

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective Display Panel(s), March 18, 2009

I bought this in 5/08.

In 2/09 the right 1/3 of my screen went black. The repair shop replaced the display panel. When the repairman brought it back and turned it on, the screen had a washboard effect. He took it back and confirmed that the new display panel was defective too. It has now been in the repair shop for over a month. The display panel is on backorder and they cannot tell me when it will be shipped. If anyone from Philips is reading this see ref# 7JW76.
I can't help but think that some other defective component is damaging the display panel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Right TV choice, March 11, 2008

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7422D/37 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
From the start we looked at only LCD TV's.
Then came the decision of brand, we really only considered the higher end brands, Sony, Samsong, and Philips. After checking and rechecking pitcher qaulity and specifications, and the price comparisions of these three, we felt the Philips would be our choice.
We started with the 40" size units, then the 46", and settled on the 52",
We would again make the same choices, very happy from the start of the deal to the present.

2.0 out of 5 stars Don't purchase this TV, July 1, 2011

This television will die in 3 years. Repairs are expensive. Phillips does nothing knowing the set will be defetive in two to three years when the warranty runs out. This is a complete rip off. Can you image these sent cost more than $1,400 bucks 12/17/2007 Tv stop working 6/29/2011 YOu should Ask about the Power supply and if Phillips will replace it after 5+ years of use. They should recall this TV Too many people with the same red blinking lights after a few years of use.

If you have money good Luck, if not don't waste it.

2.0 out of 5 stars I bought a Philips TV. My mistake., December 29, 2009
By
iamsonic (Waterloo, Iowa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips 52PFL7422D/37 52-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV (Electronics)
{I have had this Philips TV for over a year now}

I spent a lot of time researching the 52" TVs available. I knew which one I wanted, it was a Vizio Gallevia. I had tested and run through the operations of the Gallevia at the local Sams Club but they only had the display model and no box or carton for delivery and they would not deliver it.. So I drove 45 minutes to the closest Sams club which had one in the carton to sell. When I arrived {10 minutes before closing time}, they had that TV and this Philips but the Philips had higher resolution specs so I decided that even though I had driven 45 minutes to buy the Vizio and even though the Philips was more than $[...] more.. I would buy the Philips. A ten minute impulse decision after more than two weeks of research. ... What a colossal mistake!

This may sound biased and you had better believe it is!

The Philips 52PFL7422D/37: Takes over a minute to turn on, does not change channels fast, freaks out if you accidentally go to a channel that doesn't have service {it takes two minutes to recover from that}, has generally poor picture quality, has no tolerance for outside light, does not have the anti-glare screen, always has motion issues where the red blue do not keep up when a person moves across the picture {their resolution rating was B.S.}, it also has crappy speakers which you cannot turn off, no control of the line audio output{you hook up to the outputs and they are full output all the time}, the remote control does not light up. {the Vizio did and I knew it!}, the volume and channel display is in blue in the top of the screen... the same color blue as most skies in most TV shows!... [you can't friggin see it!!], and it doesn't have picture in picture!... {the Vizio did}

I really should have taken it back but I was too busy and it is too heavy.. so I just left it on the wall. When I watch it I pretend there are no adjustments.. that way I won't get too bothered about it. Honestly, sometimes I just turn it off regardless of whether or not I am watching something. You do not want this annoyance, and you should not kid yourself. I seriously doubt they changed.

Don't make the same mistake I did.
Good luck with your purchase!

And to Philips, if you want to right the wrongs of this crappy ass TV, feel free to come exchange it for one which is worth the $[...] I paid.
