5.0 out of 5 stars Good quality for its price
I purchased two of the 6.5 inch metallic frames as a gift for my parents and my parents-in-law, after spending almost a week on Amazon reading reviews on various digital frames. I chose this one because of the size (relatively small), the fact that it has an acceptable aspect ratio that won't crop the photos that much (as some "widescreen" frames do) and the 128MB...

versus
3.0 out of 5 stars Ok and reasonably cheap.
Pros:
Pictures look good
Lots of options for slide shows

Cons:
Poorly constructed, I had to reattach the bezel when the glue gave out.
The stand isn't at all adjustable and there's no provision to hang it from a wall.
Power cord is thick and obtrusive.

This review is from: Philips 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with 6.5-inch Display (Metal) (Electronics)
I purchased two of the 6.5 inch metallic frames as a gift for my parents and my parents-in-law, after spending almost a week on Amazon reading reviews on various digital frames. I chose this one because of the size (relatively small), the fact that it has an acceptable aspect ratio that won't crop the photos that much (as some "widescreen" frames do) and the 128MB built-in memory capacity. I was not disappointed. Both frames arrived in a perfect condition. I was able to just plug them in my mac through the USB cable and drag-and-drop the photos to the internal memory (didn't have to purchase extra memory, although the frame does accept one as alternative input). The interface of the frame itself is rather straightforward and the buttons on the back very easy to use. The photos are easy to handle in the frame (rotate etc) and the same holds for all the other settings (e.g. those of the slideshows). The photos' quality was very good and the overall look-and-feel of the frame very modern.

One thing that I'd like to point out, regarding other reviewers' comments on the "baby" photo: I was able to delete all the photos that came with the frame, including that particular baby photo. I guess that this had to do with some software bug which they have now fixed.

Overall I think that this is a very good buy if you want to buy a 6-8 inch frame that isn't widescreen, needing minimal installation (at least for mac users) and is very intuitive to use.

finally, I got a way to deal with the 3G pictures on my computer. it's just what I need! so far, haven't found anything bad, except... can it copy pictures from PC faster? also, it seems unable to tell the pictures already existing in it so sometimes I got two same pictures there.

4.0 out of 5 stars This is everything I expected and more, August 7, 2009
This review is from: Philips 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with 6.5-inch Display (Metal) (Electronics)
I researched a lot of frames and this frame seemed to be the best for the money. I like the brushed metal frame look. The pictures are clear and not stretched. This is a plus if you are getting a digital frame for women. It does not make them look wide. I have not played with the timers yet, but the clock is big and readable from across the room. Over all I am pleased with my purchase.

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Great - No Complaints, February 11, 2009

This unit's image quality is great for the price range. Some of these units have poor image quality due to low resolution. A nice touch is the sensor that re-orients the image when you rotate the screen. Additionally the on board controls are easy enough for my mother to learn (I bought it for her). We haven't tried the included software so I cannot comment on it.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good frame, poor software, January 21, 2009

This review is from: Philips 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with 6.5-inch Display (Metal) (Electronics)
Philips 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with 6.5-inch Display (Metal) I bought this unit to replace an old Kodak frame that could no longer read a memory card. The frame itself is everything I expected, but I've struggled with the software even though I've been using computers for over 40 years. To set up the frame one must use a set of buttons n the back. The navigation is not intuitive, and the instructions with the device are unclear. When you have struggled with the setup and loaded some photos, you can see the slide show immediately. But if you want to set up an on-off schedule, there is some more you have to discover. Even if you set up the on-off times properly, the frame doesn't turn on by itself at the appointed tome. You have to to run it on during the time span that is scheduled, and leave it on. It will turn off at the designated time, and then run each day at those times.

The distribution CD includes software that can make it easier to load and erase photos on the frame, when the frame is connected to your computer, but this software is itself not intuitive, and there is no Help file with it. There is a manual to download at philips.com; it isn't great, but it helps. You can more easily bypass this software; when the frame is connected to your computer, you can access the memory in the frame as if it were a drive. But be careful. I managed somehow to corrupt the file in the computer, and I could not see the contents or erase the folder. I called Philips' technical help, but the agent there had no idea to correct the problem, but agreed to replace the frame.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor user interface, May 2, 2009
This review is from: Philips 7-Inch Digital Photo Frame with 6.5-inch Display (Metal) (Electronics)
Image quality is fine but the user interface is ridiculously poor. Everything related to loading and using this frame is complicated, from the software to the hardware (buttons). Nothing is clear, the user guide is almost useless and I'm a tekkie type. Even worse, each time it turns off-on, you have to go through a series of menu choices all over again just to show the same album. Don't buy this -- there are far better choices out there.
