Fluorescent lights 'are' more efficient than these but I just do not care for the funny colored light the fluorescent bulbs put out. I screwed one of these 70w Halogena bulbs in next to a standard 100w soft white bulb, in a dual light fixture, and could not tell the difference in brightness, the color was slightly more yellow (it was hard too see the difference). A big plus for me is that these bulbs work with my existing dimmer switches. :) I plan to order more in the near future. Save some energy and keep the ability to dim your lighting, the best of both worlds.

1.0 out of 5 stars The Marilyn Monroe or lightbulbs, April 13, 2010
This review is from: Philips 70-Watt T60 Halogena Energy Saver Light Bulb, 2 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
It provided a wonderful bright light, but it was extinguished much too early.

I have been using CFL bulbs in most fixtures and lamps in my home, but was concerned with using them in table lamps that were at risk of being knocked over. CFL bulbs contain mercury, and after an end table lamp was knocked over and the CFL broke I decided to stop using them in that lamp. These bulbs seemed the perfect compromise: no health risk, but lower energy use than standard incandescents. However, both bulbs stopped working suddenly after about 3-4 weeks of use. The bulbs are rated to last 3000 hours, but didn't last even 300 hours. At around $4-$5 per bulb, you can't possibly justify the purchase.

Unfortunately, I will have to return to using incandescent bulbs in these lamps.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Lifetime and light quality, November 6, 2010
This review is from: Philips 70-Watt T60 Halogena Energy Saver Light Bulb, 2 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
I have bought about 15 of these bulbs 3 years ago and replaced incandescent bulbs with them in the "busiest" applications (lights on several hrs a day). So far only one out of 15 burned out which, statistically, leads me to expect >>2000 hrs expected lifetime. Light quality is outstanding and I was able to replace 100/60 W incadescents with 70/40 W Halogenas without noticing decrease in brightness. My only complaint is that price appears to have gone up quite a bit... (used to buy a 2-pack for $7 at Home Depot)
