Fluorescent lights 'are' more efficient than these but I just do not care for the funny colored light the fluorescent bulbs put out. I screwed one of these 70w Halogena bulbs in next to a standard 100w soft white bulb, in a dual light fixture, and could not tell the difference in brightness, the color was slightly more yellow (it was hard too see the difference). A big plus for me is that these bulbs work with my existing dimmer switches. :) I plan to order more in the near future. Save some energy and keep the ability to dim your lighting, the best of both worlds.

I have bought about 15 of these bulbs 3 years ago and replaced incandescent bulbs with them in the "busiest" applications (lights on several hrs a day). So far only one out of 15 burned out which, statistically, leads me to expect >>2000 hrs expected lifetime. Light quality is outstanding and I was able to replace 100/60 W incadescents with 70/40 W Halogenas without noticing decrease in brightness. My only complaint is that price appears to have gone up quite a bit... (used to buy a 2-pack for $7 at Home Depot)

It provided a wonderful bright light, but it was extinguished much too early.

I have been using CFL bulbs in most fixtures and lamps in my home, but was concerned with using them in table lamps that were at risk of being knocked over. CFL bulbs contain mercury, and after an end table lamp was knocked over and the CFL broke I decided to stop using them in that lamp. These bulbs seemed the perfect compromise: no health risk, but lower energy use than standard incandescents. However, both bulbs stopped working suddenly after about 3-4 weeks of use. The bulbs are rated to last 3000 hours, but didn't last even 300 hours. At around $4-$5 per bulb, you can't possibly justify the purchase.

Unfortunately, I will have to return to using incandescent bulbs in these lamps.

I purchased 3 pks (6) of these, they are a terrific and efficient light source, especially since Halogen bulbs can be dimmed. The halogen lamp is a standard 70 watt small tube bulb mounted to the screw base but the globe is a glass that is hair thin, probably because of the heat generated by the halogen bulb. Three of the six the globe's broke off in my fingers installing them, they break around the base cleanly. So I returned them to the store and recieved replacements. The globe breaking off does not effect the halogen bulbs operation, it act's as a diffuser. These are the best bulbs for the purpose I have been able to locate, but 3 mechanical failures out of 6 is untennable. Not a product you want to mail order or even purchase locally unless you can return them repeatedly untill you get a full number installed and working. Be SURE to save your reciepts.

I highly recommend these bulbs. This bulb uses 70W but produces 1600 lumens (similar to a standard 100W bulb) and lasts 3,000 hours. Plus they are dimmable. I've also never had a problem with them fitting a standard A19 bulb fixture. I have many fixtures that compact flourescents won't fit in. I also have dimmable fixtures. These bulbs give me much of the energy savings of a compact flourescent, but they don't have the fit problems and are dimmable.

My basement has these awful lighting fixtures which are recessed and enclosed by a thick decorative glass which blocks out most of the light of regular bulbs. This bulb turned my dim dungeon into a welcoming living space. Plus it uses a 1/3 less energy than the product I was using the past : love it!
