5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Frame
I was skeptical because of the price however I am very impressed. The picture quality is nice and the random collage feature is cool. I REALLY like the auto on and off feature. I use it at work and it turns on at 8 and off at 5 on weekdays only. Set it and forget it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it should be
This is our 4th frame from philips. In general I feel they make the best frames, very apple-like in design, packaging, and UI. The 6.5" and 8" units we have excellent picture quality. The picture quality on the 10" model is poor. The colors re muted and contrast is low. Color accuracy seems fine. I would expect this of other brands, but not philips. I really wish I didn't...

Pros: VERY Good design, Good UI, Good viewing angle, Robust
Cons: Poor Picture Quality, No AVI MJPEG support

3.0 out of 5 stars Just average, many others are better, December 21, 2008
This review is from: Philips 9.4-Inch Digital Photo Frame (Metal & Wood) (Electronics)
I was very disappointed with this digital frame, having used another previous model that included a remote control and seemed to have better resolution. Although the size is larger, it was also not as attractive as the other model I replaced and the quality of the frame was not the highest. As I received this as a gift, I don't know the cost, but if I were to make another purchase, I would not select a Philips. I regret giving away the Matsunichi model because I found it better in all areas, from set up to slideshow to the capability of playing a video. I actually unplugged this one and let it rest in the box rather than use the electricity and be reminded the frame of past. Even at the Gold Box price today, I still think there are better digital frames from which to select.

Great product. Easy to use, the only problem i had was that i couldn't figure out how the wood look frame attached on. Thought it might be magnetic, but i doesn't seem to be.

1.0 out of 5 stars Wont buy Phillips again, February 25, 2011
This review is from: Philips 9.4-Inch Digital Photo Frame (Metal & Wood) (Electronics)
Bought 6 months ago as a Christmas gift.
No longer works.

Less then 6 months use for 129.00

Electronics should just WORK, this doesn't.

If your manufacturing process puts out bad units, you won't get my business again.

When buying Phillips, go ahead and place your bets. Maybe you get one that works for 1 year, maybe you don't.

If I knew then, what I know now, I would never, ever by this manufacturer again.

Crap product, very very difficult to use (And I have been in Information technology for 25 years and know
the difference between "easy to use" and "impossible to figure out") These Phillips products are impossible to figure out. Buy a different manufacturer, no matter what the packaging, and other hype says.

Also, the Phillips web site support is no help.

If you buy products from this manufacturer, you're as good as on your own. Hope you good with a screw driver and soldiering iron....

5.0 out of 5 stars Philips 9.4-Inch Digital Photo Frame, April 1, 2010

I don't understand why some people are giving this such a low rating. I love this digital picture frame. I am a photographer, and I am always throwing high resolution images onto it, and it displays them very well. This has very good, sharp detail, and rich color saturation. The battery only lasts about an hour or so, but who really expects anything more? I mean it's basically a computer monitor on a battery, so how long is it expecteed to last? It needs a lot of power. Beside that, using it on a battery would be nice, but who really cares? Unless the battery lasts 5 days without needing a recharge, then who will really use the battery feature? To me, the battery feature is nice, in the case that you want to leave it on, unplug it real fast, to connect to your computer or something, or for general disconnect purposes. But that's about it.

As far as low contrast goes, I think the contrast on it is just fine. When you first start it up, it has very low contrast. Then after it warms up a bit, it does get brighter. Then it gets to where it should be. Also a hint is to get it as flat to you as you can. Mine is set almost directly straight up, not slanted one bit. This is how you get the best of picture and contrast.

One plus to this is the fact that it DOES take sdHC cards. So even if your computer cannot read sdhc (high capacity) cards, all you have to do is put the card into the digital frame, and hook the digital frame up to your computer, and your computer will read it through the frame. This is a pretty big PLUS to me.

One word of advice. If you load a high res image, and the picture shows up choppy, or just not quite right, then use the actual program that comes with the frame to load the images. I always just drag and drop my high resolution images right onto the card, in which most cases it works the best and has the best quality. But in some cases, such as portrait shots, or any shots with people, or faces, they mostly turn out rough. So using the program that comes with the frame to load the images works best in these cases, and the images turn out fine.

Overall, I am very happy with this frame, the quality, the appearance, and everything about it. I would most definitely recommend this to others, and also consider buying again in the future.

This is a great picture frame. There were some problems loading pictures on a memory card but once that was sorted out everything works great.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice product, good build quality, miserable battery life, January 12, 2009

This review is from: Philips 9.4-Inch Digital Photo Frame (Metal & Wood) (Electronics)
Purchased this for my wife to use in her display booth at trade shows. Hard to beat the build quality, I have used the 7" model before so was familiar with the menu system; no real surprises. Minus points for our use was the battery life and the auto rotate feature. Tried it out at home first, loaded in a SD card with maybe 10 photos and let it run at medium brightness. Within an hour I received a "battery low" warning and within 15 minutes it shut itself off. Pretty poor considering laptops with larger screens can easily get 4 hours and this is with running everything else i.e. processor + hard drive + graphics + memory etc etc. The auto rotate picture did not seem to work properly, landscape pics were not rotated unless you held the device upsidedown; still have to figure this one out!

Bottomline, if you have access to an electrical outlet, no problems, but if you are looking for a standalone unit for use away from an outlet for any significant length of time, look elsewhere or go with a smaller screen.
