These are much better, and longer lasting than the equivalent/similar sylvania model which only seem to last just 5 months. These Philips VisionPlus bulbs usually last me 9 months to a year or more, and they throw a good amount of bright, white light that lights up the road very nicely! They may not be as bright as HID bulbs, but I can't stand that kind of painful light coming at me from other cars, so I don't want to do that to others either. But these are very good, last the longest in their class, and a decent value. I have been buying them for my '01 Honda CR-V for a several years on & off, but when I couldn't find them one time in my local auto parts stores, I ended up buying the sylvania equivalents like I did years ago, and once again all I got out of those was about 5 months! But one thing I found out over the years overall is that the brighter the bulb, the shorter their life is...at least when it comes to hologen headlamp bulbs. But the Philips bulbs seem to last the longest.

I did some research on automotive lighting and the best option for bright headlights. I used to buy Sylvania Silverstars because of the ice-blue tint that mimicks the HID look. After about 5 pairs in 4 months, I realized how horrible they are and upon further research that the coating actually reduces the brightness.

Found a lot of reviews on car forums talking about the brand Osram and how they make the real Silverstars. These bulbs are uncoated and are called the 55W Ultra High Efficacy Plus 50. These bulbs are manufactured by Osram (Silverstars), Narva (Rangepower+50), Tungsram (Megalicht), and Philips (VisionPlus).

Out of all of them, Philips is the easiest to get a hold of in the US which lead me to purchase them here.

A standard bulb produces 1550 Lumens and a Plus +50 bulb produces 1750 Lumens. They are the brightest legal bulbs you can purchase and all those "ice blue" "extreme white" bulbs are junk, they are estimated to product about 1350 Lumens and a terrible lifespan.

I switched from a standard stock bulb to these so I was able to notice a good change in brightness, but i'm sure if varies with each car and the bulb they are replacing.

So to sum it up, don't expect HID grade brightness, just expect a very good quality bulb that will give you the best from a halogen bulb.

The bulb appears to be slightly brighter and slightly higher in color temperature (whiter in color) than my factory Honda bulb. The dispersal pattern is also broader, if this is good or bad depends on what you want/need I guess.

I would say that you really won't notice a difference in brightness over factory, the only time I can is on a closed garage door under close scrutiny. While driving dark roads, I don't notice a discernible difference. However, I guess I would buy again, as these are similar price when compared to factory replacements, so why not get slightly more performance I guess.

We'll see how long they last. I was surprised my factory bulb burned out after only 3 years / 45kmi, I guess "they just don't make them like they used to." I'll report back after failure, if I remember to haha.

****Update*****: The first bulb burned out after about 2.5 years of usage, around 40,000 miles. So this is on par of the life of the factory bulb.

These lights are definitely an improvement over whatever oem lights the dealer had installed in the parents 2001 Accord. As a quick test I drove a route with a combination of street and highway, both with a combination of well lit and under-lit that I've regularly been commuting through. I live in a major city so didn't get a chance to test these in any pitch black places akin to rural suburbs, but I'm sure they'll do well there. The light put out by the VisionPlus is brighter and does appear to shine farther ahead than the oem lights. I can see the light bounce off signs that are farther ahead now. Even in areas well lit by street lights I can make out the round shape of light cast on the road by these VisionPlus bulbs. Faded lane markers, even after being snow weathered (had 15-17inches of snowfall yesterday) are much clearer now and for an adequate distance ahead of the car. Based on these initial results I'm very happy I got these as I was getting worried for my mother's aging eyes behind the wheel, but even she saw the improvement immediately.

Since this is the first time I've tried the VisionPlus I can't comment on the life of the bulbs, but I am expecting they'll last longer than SilverStar Ultras as I've read they do in forums on the interweb. I previously got SS Ultras on my '04 Accord hoping for better lighting on extended highway trips through CT and upstate NY but honestly I didn't notice an improvement over the oems, at least not $50 worth (Autozone price, where I bought them). They also didn't seem to make a difference during the rain. I've read the VisionPlus aren't as white as the SS Ultras and that may help regarding reflections caused by rain or snow. I'll have to wait and see during one of those downpours when the wipers can't keep up and traffic slows to a halt.

With the initial results and at about $6-7 less per bulb than SS Ultras from Amazon, I'm very satisfied and am already leaning on VisionPlus for all future replacements.
