I was most pleasantly surprised by this razor after my first shave! I've tried electric razors off and on over the last 20 years or so and never did they even come close to a non-electric razor shave as far as closeness and comfort. And they always rubbed my skin the wrong way... leaving my face in a bit of pain for several hours afterwards.

I didn't shave for two days before receiving this because I wanted to test out how it would do on fairly heavy stubble. When it arrived I tried it while in the shower with shaving creme. Which was a great idea because the shaving creme really helped it glide smoothly over my face. I did 1-2 passes across all areas of my face and neck and it got most of the stubble. But I could feel with my hand that a good bit of it was still there. So, I tried again, going around in circles on each area of my face and adding a slight bit more of pressure. When I got out of the shower I was stunned when I touched my dry face at how smooth it was! There was absolutely none of the stubble left. In fact, it turned out that it shaved a lot closer than my manual razors ever did.

I've always had trouble getting everything off on my neck even with a manual razor. I have to go over and over it from every different angle, and with a manual razor there would always be some I just couldn't get. But with this electric razor, I was stunned to discover it had gotten absolutely everything off my neck!! I've never felt my neck so smooth.

This gave me such a close shave in fact, that I didn't even have to shave the next day! I've been really blown away by its performance.

Just one problem though, when it arrived and I unpacked it - everything promised was there, the travel case, the stand and the extra set of blades.

I was introduced to the Norelco shaver when my old Sunbeam died while I was on active duty in Germany in 1981. The small PX at Patch Barracks had to brands. I'd never used either. The clerk, a service wife, recommended the Norelco.

The AT 880 is my fourth Norelco, and I've always been satisfied.

The Razor's LION battery charges quickly, and I haven't had to recharged it for 3 weeks.

The razor is well-balanced. It cuts well, so it gives a clean shave to my light beard. The tilting head contributes to the closeness of the shave.

I like the ability to wash the razor everyday, as indicated in the instructions.

I would recommend this razor to a friend.

This is probably my 5th Norelco shaver, so I'm very used to the brand. I got this one b/c the head carrier broke on my previous one. The new shaver certainly works well, at least so far, but it feels "insubstantial"; actually "cheap". Several specific complaints/displeasures:

the charge indicator is very crude (single red symbol just prior to battery exhaustion), and you have no idea at all about the time remaining until that indicator lights. (My previous shaver had a useful digital readout of minutes remaining.)

It's not cord/cordless as the previous ones were so you can't plug it in and shave. That's more an issue when the battery gets old and won't hold a charge than now, but it's still an annoyance.

It's supposed to be rinsed out under water, but for reasons I can't fathom (and make no sense to me), that water is allowed to enter the inside of the unit and drip out the bottom. So, in addition to undoubtedly leaving hair residue inside (plus or minus any damage from the water itself, the unit drips on my bathroom sink countertop until it's empty.

Lastly, and this is admittedly nitpicking, the pop-up trimmer doesn't open quite as easily/conveniently as the previous ones.

I do like the extra set of heads that were thrown into the package, and that influenced my purchase, despite knowing in advance that this unit was comparatively feature-bare. And I couldn't justify spending the >$200 they're charging for their fancy "kit" units. I'll keep the shaver since it does indeed shave as well as the previous ones, but it's very hard to get excited about it, or to give it more than an "okay" rating.

Shaves pretty close. It is quiet but has a fairly powerful motor. The battery charge is more than sufficient. Replacement heads are much cheaper than the ones for my senso- touch 2d and 3d razors. It shaves almost as close as my more expensive Norelco shavers. The difference is minimal.

I knew I was ordering a discontinued model when I selected it, so I can't complain about value for the money. It's nicely constructed, holds a charge for a very good length of time, and cleans-up easily when needed. My only complaint is that the HQ8 cutter heads don't cut as efficiently as another Norelco model I've owned for a couple of years. It takes a few extra passes to do the same job.

I selected this razor over newer models with the HQ11 cutter heads, because almost NONE of them included a travel pouch for the razor, and my intended use for the thing is business travel. (B.T.W. the travel pouch you receive with this unit is quite a bit nicer than than the average for Norelco - durable, form-fitted). Don't know why Norelco discontinued HQ9 models; they cut with the efficiency of a lawn mower.

On balance, still a good value because the razor has a substatial feel to it and this model contains a spare set of cutter heads for when the first set wears-out. (Haven't owned long enough yet to know when that will be).
