5.0 out of 5 stars Makes a great gift
This set comes with a pacifier, 4 9oz feeding bottles, 4 slow flow (number 2) nipples, 4 sealing disks, and 4 nipple travel packs.

This set is great when you couple it with the Avent Newborn Starter Set (2 newborn pacifiers, 2 4oz bottles, 3 9oz bottles, 5 newborn (number 1) nipples, and 1 bottle brush).

5.0 out of 5 stars Best bottle for breast fed babies, July 9, 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
My son was born in September 2003 and he is still breatfed at 9 and a half months. A few days after I brought him home from the hospital he had trouble latching on. I went to see a lactation consultant who recommended the Avent bottles. I had already purchased the Playtex Premium Nurser Set but found the flow of the nipple too fast. If the bottle was held upside down the milk would flow out. That is a huge problem for breast fed babies because they need to learn how to suck the milk from the breast. Yes the Avent bottles come with the newborn nipple, however there is a slow flow nipple that should be used with newborns. The number is zero, unlike the newborn nipple whose number is one. Milk does not flow out of the bottle if held upside. I have never used the Playtex bottles because of this reason. Also other good points are this system also helps to teach your baby how to latch on and makes it tremendously easy to switch from breast to bottle; when your baby is ready for the sippy cup, these bottles convert to a cup. You only have to purchase the attachments. I hope this helps those mothers who felt the newborn nipple's flow was too fast. Just use the slow flow nipple with number zero.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bottles, August 5, 2004

I have been very happy with the Avent Naturally re-usable bottles. I don't recommend liners of any kind because it's just an extra step in the bottle-making process and something more to have to go buy when you run out! With these re-usable bottles, I just toss everything in the dishwashwer and I'm good to go.

I have no complaints about these bottles. They really are wonderful. There are 4 different flow speeds to accommodate your child's needs, as well, which is nice.

There are also handles that you can purchase later on to encourage baby to hold his own bottle, as well as little sippy-cup spouts. So, you can turn all of your bottles into non-spill sippy cups, which just extends the life of this product. You won't have to spend money on sippy cups this way.

I would not recommend buying any 4-ounce size bottles. Just put a smaller amount into the larger 9-ounce bottles at first. My son was drinking 6 ounces per bottle by the time he was 3 months old, anyway, so I'm glad I didn't waste money on the 4-ounce size.

This set really is great. It has 4 9oz bottles, slow flow (number 2) nipples, 4 sealing disks, 4 travel nipple bases, and a newborn pacifier.

This, combined with a 3pk of 4oz bottles makes a a great start to infant feeding. It will also save you some money because you won't need to buy the Breast Milk Storage kit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Advice on leaking, April 22, 2005
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
I have found that if you tighten the lids too much, it leaks. Try to loosen the lids a bit - it's got something to do with the valve system. Hope it works!

2.0 out of 5 stars Leaks, Poor Nipples and Lots of Gas! These bottles are "hyped!", July 25, 2005
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
I registered and purchased Avent bottles for my first child. I heard great things about them from a few other people and they seemed to be "trendy." Although the 4 oz bottles were better in terms of leaking and seem to be better with thin liquids like water, the larger bottles leak like a sieve unless you completely dry every edge of the nipple, the nipple sleeve and the rim of the bottle and then are careful not to over or under-tighten. This has become an annoying, but necessary ritual. Altogether the bottle system gave my son more gas, not less. He spit-up constantly and it was only after trying other nipples and switching to a soy formula that I figured out that the bottle system was contributing to his misery. Not to mention the misery my husband and I suffered all the time in the middle of the night at feeding an infant a bottle that is leaking on him from underneath and not knowing it until his outfit was soaked!
By the time we fixed the bottle, changed him and settled him again, he was hysterical and would not go down again easily.

The first stage nipple is inadequate to feed the baby easily - the hole is small, they get lots of air and get upset about the lack of faster gratification. The size of the bottle also has made it difficult for him to hold it and feed himself now that he's a bit older. It's harder to hold aloft because of the size. I have read reviews and heard good things from my best friend about the Playtex "Premium" Nurser (not the regular Nurser or the VentAire.) While I'm not looking forward to spending more money on the drop-ins for my baby girl who is going to be born in 8 days, I am looking forward to a potentially more spit-up free and drier life with my second!

5.0 out of 5 stars I cannot imagine loving bottles more than I love Avents!, July 9, 2005
By
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
I am a mother of 7 month old (well, almost 7 month old) twin sons, and a 3 year old daughter (she used old Gerber bottles)

I tried Ventaires first, which really stunk! The disks grew mold, the nipples collapsed and were either too fast or too slow, they required special treatments, and were very "temperamental", you never knew if they would leak or not. The Dr. Browns were worse. I was done with them so fast that I can not even tell you if they reduce gas or not, there were too many parts to clean, you couldn't mix formula inside of them (cannot be shaken) and they were just too high maintenance. I figured the Avents couldn't work for my reflux babies, since they were so "simple", but the solution is always the last place you look!

(1) The Avent bottles really dont require specialist treatment. You do have to remember that the bottle will leak from the ring if you tighten it too much (like those store bought water bottles, we finally figured out how tight was too tight, and how loose was too loose... you will too). Also the bottle will leak if the nipples are ruined, see step (2) for bottle cleaning.
(2) We clean the bottles in a very simple way. We disassemble the bottles (keep in mind this maybe 5 hours after a trip to the mall, or right after they finished) and rinse them off with hot water and antibacterial dish soap. We also use a sponge-like bottle brush, since the one Avent provides is pretty cheap. The nipples/rings are also washed the same way. Depending on the situation, we either then leave the parts out to dry, or place them on the top rack in the dishwasher.
(3) There is no extra work needed when assembling a bottle! You dont have to stretch any disks, or make sure everything is perfectly dry. There's no tubing or vents to prepare, or extra bottles used to make the formula... Its great!
(4) The 9 oz. bottles are the ones to get. The smaller ones dont last too long, and you can place 4 oz. in a 9 oz. bottle, but not the other way around!
(5) All Avent products (breast pump, bottle, magic cup) are interchangeable, and work well together.
(6) The stage one nipples go a bit fast, but my boys can handle it now (took a few days to get used to it though). I find that the stage one nipples should really be "stage two", but I really dont see any problems for people who use Avent bottles from the get-go.
(7) The company has great customer service! I accidentally ruined 5 of the nipples by boiling (middle of the night) and Avent sent me out SEVEN replacements free of charge, and I even received a few coupons! And it wasn't even their fault... I had just been calling to ask how to sterilize them, and you really only need to scrub them, and throw them in the dishwasher (although they WILL try to persuade you to purchase the microwave, or stand-alone sterilizer!).
(8) The Avents dont leak at all! I can throw them in the diaper bag (with nipple cap on for protection) without having to keep them in Ziploc baggies! They are durable, and easy to hold. The measurements are accurate, and the wide neck allows formula to go into the bottle well. They dont leak while tossed, vigorously shaken, dropped, rolled, or battered around inside a diaper bag! Talk about endurance!

I love the Avent bottles, they save me precious time, and with these bottles, my husband even gets in on the bottle cleaning act, no kidding!

Not impressed (Swarthmore, Pa United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
I agree with the other reviews, it is a great set has all the bottles you need to get started. However my child constantly has formula dripping from her mouth. The nipple is too big and allows the baby to get way more then she can swallow. It drips down her face the whole time she is eating. I hate it!!! This is my third child so I wanted to try the newest bottle available and I really like the look of the bottle. Don't like the way her outfits look all wet and stained and can't tell how much she is getting cause she's wearing most of the milk on her clothes..

5.0 out of 5 stars I LOVE Avent Bottles, April 12, 2005
By
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
I absolutely love these bottles!! I've been using them for about 4.5 months now and I've NEVER had a problem with leaks!!!! I have also never overtightened the bottles!! I love how they are designed. Because of their width, my daughter was able to hold them at 3.5 months!! I also love their 'wide-neck', which makes it very easy to fill the bottle while holding a squirming baby! They are also EXTREMELY easy to clean! And they are interchangeable!! I plan on buying the sippy cup spout in a couple of months so that my daughther can learn to drink from a sippy cup using the same bottle!!! My daughter has also never had colic!! I LOVE EM!!! I LOVE EM!!! I LOVE EM!!! I also have the breast pump and microwave sterilzer which all fit the bottles perfectly!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Wish I could give 0 stars!, July 22, 2005
This review is from: Philips AVENT Infant Feeding Set (Baby Product)
Like everybody else, we registered for the Avent bottles because they seemed to be such a good line and very popular - it was our first baby so we were clueless - and we thought all bottles were basically the same anyways. These bottles are absolutely terrible and they literally LEAK all over the place!!! By the end of a feeding, there is more milk on my son and myself then there is in his stomach. Talk about frustrating - and it is always the middle of the night feedings when they really leak everywhere - not good. I would tell anyone who will listen to go with a different line of bottles - as soon as my son is done with these, they are going in the trash (I already threw one bottle away in a late night fit of rage) - if I can even stand it that long!
