READ THE INSTRUCTIONS!!!,
By
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
The bottles must be assembled the right way to ensure no leaking. I think people are experiencing leaks because of failure to read directions...
-Pull the nipple through the white collar and make sure that the little ridge is sitting on top of the collar all the way around. -Then put the dome cap onto the white collar. -Take filled bottles and screw the nipple on as one whole assembled unit (white collar, nipple, and clear dome cap) -Twist the dome cap until the white collar locks. Do not overtighten. Amazing...no leaks! When all else fails, read the instructions! All products are made differently. Our son is ready to start with nipple #3, we haven't had any problems so far. Good luck!

The best!,
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
Avoid nipple confusion and use avent! My 6 month old baby has been using this since he was only a few days old and there is no problem! I breastfeed, but for the first 5 days when my milk hasn't come in, I used avent. My baby didn't have a problem switching from breast to bottle at all. Even today I give him juice using Avent and my son has no problem switching.
But to backtrack to the birth of my son. The hospital bottle fed my son after taking him away from me because I had a c-section. The hospital used those Similac ready made formula that comes in their own bottle. Between that nipple and the Avent nipple my baby became nipple confused. It was a horrible experience getting him used to the Avent nipple, but once he did it was smooth sailing like I mentioned above. Learn from me! If you plan on using Avent, bring some bottles with you to the hospital and instruct the nurses to check with you before bottle feeding your baby. Trasfer the formula to the Avent bottle and you'll avoid nipple confusion!

couldn't be happier,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
My daughter is now 15 months and I've been using Avent since she was born. I couldn't be happier with this brand and was shocked to read a negative review! All I can say to that is these other people must not be using it correctly... Or expecting their child to take a bottle easily when they won't. Some babies won't take a bottle, and so it's always a risk if you buy a bunch of stuff at once. When my daughter was younger, she did better on the breast of course, but you have to use the right nipple for that stage. All babies are very different so the age on the package might not correspond exactly to your child. If it leaks out of their mouth, use a lower level nipple, if they suck too hard, get the next age up. The nice thing is, you save money with Avent because you can use all the same bottles all the way though the sippy cup stage, you just buy different tops. Screw the top on right and it won't leak. The reason I gave it only 4 stars was the that the last stage yellow sippy leaks. It leaks intentionally because it for older children, but still it would still be nice if it didn't pour out of the top. Also, the 3 stages in 1 nipple doesn't work that way it claims to. You are supposed to position it in their mouth 3 different ways and it will give you three different stages. Instead, which ever way you position it, it seems to let out more liquid that a level 3 top. It doesn't bother me though, she just uses that one when I run out of clean sippy tops. Also, I like that the nipples and the pacifiers are much softer than most brands and, I never needed to buy all the extra stuff like breast milk bags or sterilizers because I just used hot water and froze milk right in the 4 oz bottle. It was always very simple for me, I reccommend this brand very highly.

My Daughter Hated Avent Bottles,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
I bought this starter set based on the good reviews and I had heard that Avent bottle nipples were the closest thing to breastfeeding. My daughter refuses to take these bottles. I think that the nipple is too hard for her - it doesn't really seem to mimic the breast to me! I like the bottles themselves but I don't think they are that great for a breastfeeding baby. I have since switched to the Playtex premium nurser system which has a softer nipple that my daughter likes. A word to the wise: when you are trying to figure out what your baby will take, don't buy an entire bottle feeding system because they may not like the bottle and then you have to start all over again. In retrospect, I would have just bought one Avent bottle and tried it out instead of dropping $30 for nothing.

Much improved,
By
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
This set is much better than Avent's last "Newborn Starter Set". The old set had 1 pacifier, 2 4oz bottles, 2 9oz bottles, 4 newborn (number 1) nipples and 1 bottle brush. This set has 2 newborn pacifiers, 2 4oz bottles, 3 9oz bottles, 5 newborn (number 1) nipples, and 1 bottle brush. This set is great when you couple it with the Avent Infant Feeding Set (4 9oz bottles, 1 pacifier, 4 travel nipple bases, 4 sealing disks, and 4 slow flow (number 2) nipples. Avent is really improving the products they offer.

Love them!,

We have used these bottles for almost 8 months and we love them! We probably love them because we were told by a friend before our son was born that they were wonderful but unless you completely dry them off they will leak. Well, we just make sure that everything is completely dry and we havn't any problems with them. We have passed off this advise to everyone we know who uses these and they havn't had any problem since!

Love the bottles,

I have been using these bottles since April 2004 and my baby is now 9 months old. I LOVE them! We have NOT had any problems using them - they work with the pump or just for formula feeding. We have not had problems with leaking at all. I now use the AVENT trainer cup and the nipple fits nicely with that cup as well. I would highly recommend these bottles to any new mom - they wash well and keep looking like new.

SECRET TO NO LEAKS...READ ON!!!!!!!,
By Amy Bee (Ohio) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
Like so many of the other people who wrote reviews, I also had leaks a lot. I was ready to go out and buy new bottles when I decided to go to Avent's website. It had instructions on how to properly put the bottles together so you don't get spills. I tried it...and it works! :) You have to pull the nipple through the white collar, put the plastic lid on, then screw it on the bottle. The directions actually came with the bottles, I just never read them. I figured I knew what to do and there wouldn't be anything different to do. Well, I'm happy I found the secret...and I hope everyone finds this note helpful!

They DO Leak... BUT.....,
By dww "dww" (Seattle, WA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips AVENT Newborn Starter Set (Baby Product)
Listen all - as a Dad of 2 (19mo & 3mo) these bottles LEAK.
It's not nipple age, microwaved, dish-washed, or how your kid sucks it down. It's a matter of how the nipple fits into the cap and how the cap and nipple screw onto the bottle. Trust me, as a dude I went through all of the above. Brand new out of the box or used over 6 months you just have to resign to the fact that these things have a tendency to spill out. DUDE's GUIDE TO LEAKING BOTTLE: A. After filling the bottle's content, cap it and shake or tip the bottle over the sink. Allow contents to spill out of nipple. Then tip the bottle upright. It is at that time you will know if your bottle is leaking or not. If it is leaking, proceed to Step B. If it is not leaking, repeat process a couple more times just to be sure. Feed baby. B. If the bottle does spill or leak, unscrew the cap and use a paper towel or bib and dry the inside threads of the white cap. Dry the external threads of the bottle as well. Screw on cap. Reef on it like you mean it (usually you're PO'd by now so a little agression helps). Repeat Step A. Avent bottles are based of a simple principle of channelling air through the nipple/cap threads rather than having the baby backwash (ala chugging a Dr. Pepper from a bottle). It needs to draw air. While eating, just make sure the nipple is at least 1/2 way in the baby's mouth and his lips/mouth are WIDE open as if he was nursing. These moms that say they have to tip their baby upside down etc. is baloney. Tip the bottle - DUH! And as for air/gas/burping, all babies suck air while nursing/bottle-fed. Babies do that. They still have the breathe-thru-nose-while-eating mechanism after doing the same for months in the womb. So trust me. It takes a little work to understand these things. These ARE good bottles and they DO work. Just be aware of the above. Hope this helps. |
