I purchased this as a gift. The first time it was used, the CD drive worked once for a few minutes and never worked again. It would just keep searching for a CD and never find it. We tried new music CDs right out of the package, MP3 CDs, older music CDs and nothing worked. It wouldn't recognize that we had a CD.
I returned the first one thinking that any product has a few defects in it. Got the replacement and it was worse, if possible. It never worked at all.
To be fair, the tape and the radio parts of the unit worked fine, but the CD part (which is what we really wanted) never worked at all. I have purchased many CD players before and never had one that didn't work. It's not that difficult a product to produce. This product is obviously not manufactured with any kind of quality control.
I would NOT recommend this item to anyone. Perhaps we may have gotten a good unit if we had tried again, but for me, two defective units in a row is too much.

This was the only boombox I could find that played mp3's, radio, tape and regular cd's. The shuffle option is delayed on mp3 cd's especially if you have too many folders. Sound quality is great but not wonderful. Easy to read LCD screen. Overall great buy.

I am very happy with my purchase. Real value for money! It plays CD-R, RW's, MP3 and regular CD's. The voice quality is good. The small remote is really handy and works well.

Long story short. I bought one, was defective. Sent back to Philips using the RMA procedures. They received it on 3-2-06 via USPS Delivery Confirmation. Philips agreed to do an "exchange". which means whatever they please (I was told it meant a new one in place of the defective one), in my case I was told one time that the original would be fixed, then exchanged, then fixed and finally exchanged. (Yes many calls and all different answers) I was promised 10-15 days from receipt, which is mentioned above. I actually received it on 4-19-06, way past the 10-15 days and was sent a used refurbished model; after being promised a new "exchange". They have outsourced their custmer service (no need to elaborate), so everything is inconsistent and scripted. I've had such a bad experience, that 1) I will never buy a Philips product again and 2) if this one proves defective, I will just put it in the trash. Unfortunately, the integrity of the company is not what you would expect from such a company. Almost forgot, the MP3 player, doesn't have a head phone jack, can you believe that?? Must be outsourcing the engineering aspect?? LOL As you can the rating is based primarily on the experience, not so much the sound or use of the product, but when something goes wrong, this is when you find out how good or not-so-good a company and/or product is.

I bought this Boombox and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure what some people expect out of a boombox that sells for [item price] but considering the price, the sound is excellant - much better than I expected - especially the bass response. It has played all of my mp3 cd's flawlessly. For the $, you can't beat this unit. Love it.

I am returning this unit because of poor AM reception (I listen to talk radio) and because you can't turn the unit on or off via the remote control.

Overall this product seems to be a good value. There are very few "boomboxes" that offer the functionality of this unit with digital AM/FM, Cassette, CD and MP3. Even with super saver shipping it arrived very quickly. However, the picture shown of this item is misleading....the unit I received looks very different from the picture on this page. Mine is silver (not black) and the design is much less sleak. Additionally, I paid for gift wrapping and I suppose due to the size they put it in a cloth gift sack rather than using paper. The problem is that with the boombox inside the sack which is inside the shipping box the sack got all dirty, it has a hole in it and is horribly wrinked....not at all worth the price of gift wrapping.
