What a sound this boombox makes. Especially if you first listen to any other boombox in any shop and than turn on this awesome piece. A very impressive bass and still high clarity for voice.

If you like this agressive design, you will not be disappointed by the aggressive sound. Hear, hear Philips, good job, the best sound in this price category.

This "boom box" has a very nice sound for the money. The bass is deep and rich and the treble is well defined without being tinny. Whether the unit will pack enough punch to satisfy hard core rap enthusiasts is open to debate. The radio picks up weak stations with ease. It is perfect for my office

On the minus side, the digital display is not illuminated and is extremely difficult to read in any light. The unit's remote control is a very cheesy affair, giving you only the barest minimum control over the unit's basic functions. You can't even turn the power on or off with the remote. What's up with that?

Finally, the footprint of this unit is huge. Make sure you clear out a few feet of space for this baby.

I listened to about 20 different boxes in the $... to $... range - from Sony, JVC, Audiophase and others.... NOTHING sounds like this Philips. Activate the dynamic bass boost, the added clarity and surround feature and let it rip!

I tested this mini monster with Karma To Burn, Metallica S&M and Rammstein - SOLD! Clear highs, quick bass, and even a little "soundstage" image.

I don't use the cassette, but the FM and the CD work well - even with "home-brewed" CD-Rs. Cool enough sound and looks to fit in any room short of an arena!

I was looking for a CD player for my place of work. First I bought another Mini-Stero System with a five CD turntable because I thought it would be cool. Listened to it at work and was very disappointed by the sound. I then saw the Philips AZ202517,listened to it at work and is much better than the other system I first bought plus this one is the same price as the first. I would recommend this CD Radio Cassette Recorder to anyone. IT TOTALLY ROCKS!!!!!

I like the sound of this boombox -- nice bass and treble. I did have to exchange the first one I received because the CD lid broke after I'd opened and closed it about 3 times. I'm hoping the replacement holds up better. The remote is handy and has all the functions I need except the ability to turn the machine on and off and to switch between functions (e.g., between radio and cd). The display is hard to read in low light so you either need to memorize the buttons or turn a light on in order to operate it at night.

I got this boombox on Amazon ... -- a great deal! I really wasn't expecting spectacular sound from this unit, so I was pleasantly surprised at how really good the sound quality is. We paid at least twice as much for an Aiwa shelf system a few months ago. Honestly, I can tell very little difference between the two systems as far as sound quality is concerned. I was also surprised at how loud this boombox goes with NO distortion. Sure it would be nice to have some additional features on this unit (for example, being able to turn it on and off with a remote, having a lighted display, having auto-reverse on the cassette player); however, at the price I purchased it, no boombox on the market comes close as far as sound quality is concerned (which is the most important feature in my book).

I got this from amazon..a little worried about buying a radio without hearing it. Well..I loved it! Good sound for the price! The remote was a good thing too. The only drawback to this radio is the the lcd display does not light up. It is kind of hard to see. Unless you are under a lot of light:( But, besides that I would say buy this radio if you want something that sounds good and is portable!!

I currently own four Philips "boomboxes." The best sound was from our older AZ2000/17 (unfortunately, not purchased from Amazon.com). The CD player quit working in less than two years. To that point, it was one of the greatest sounding portable players I've ever heard - very close to BOSE quality sound, without that ultra high cost. In purchasing the 'newer' AZ2025/17 (from Amazon.com), I noticed a very close resemblence in the sound quality to our AZ2000/17, but the unit is not the most attractive piece of audio equipment that I've seen. Although, the best part is that GREAT Philips tuner system. I buy Philips because their tuners are unusually strong, and seem to pick up stations with more clarity, from far greater distances than any other portable on the market. Not to mention the terrific sound quality! Philips' older model "boomboxes" tended to have fragile, easily breakable antennae clips though, so beware. I'm now investing in the much more attractive, later model, Philips AZ2035/17 (again from Amazon.com). Hope that this continuous "upgrade" will produce the same (or better) sound qualities of the past AZ2000/17 (now defunct) and the AZ2025/17 models.

I purchased this item mid March, after 6-weeks of limited use in my office, the CD lid broke and CD player capabilities stopped.

I am very disapointed! I would not reccoment this unit as this seems to be a common problem.

This is a good buy, great sound, the remote has very limited capabilities. You can't turn system on/off or switch between tape/CD/radio using remote.

We use it in our exercise room, great for switching between radio stations while working out.
