I bought this stereo in May of 2001 and it has never failed or had any problems. The speakers are powerful and the CD player can play all CD formats except for CD-RW's (I really wish it could play CD-RW's.) I have never had a single problem with this system. When I purchased it I expected it to be able to switch between CD to Radio to Cassette with the remote but it doesn't do that at all. The remote does in fact work to change the Volume, Radio Prestets, Scan through chanels, play/pause the CD player, change track on the CD player, skip around on the song, it can also with the remote shuffle and Repeat songs. I would strongly recommend this stereo to anyone who needs just a simple radio, but I would not reccommend it to anyone who would frequently use it due to the fact that it doesn't have a 6 CD Changer (I wish I got one with a six CD changer) I got this stereo and it replaced an older Sony boombox model. I like the purchase I made into this and I will continue to buy Philip's products along with many other brands.

I debated whether I should spend $... more and get this one that had a remote control. I am glad I did - it is so much easier. The system really sounds good too. I could have gotten a large stereo but I like the fact that this is portable and the speakers detach.

My uncle gave me this boombox as a gift when I was 13 years old (six years ago!) and is still working (ok, the casette decks doesn't work anymore but that don`t bothers me, because nowadays almost everybody is using only CD's). I was impressed by its powerful and clear sound, its ease of use and its excellent radio reception. But the fact that's the most impressive is its reliability and durability. It suffered ocassinal shocks (against the room's door) and worked overtime when we lent it with the bosses' children (they usually use it all the day along and sometimes all the night, so my parents decided no to lend it anymore) and it's still working! It reads the CD's very well, even if the have some scratches of fingerprints. The manual is well written and easy to understand. The bad is that when I try to tune an AM station, say 1520, I have to tune to 1521 or 1530 because doesn't jump every 5 Khz (that's strange), but it's a minor defect in a great appliance. With a very good sound, ease of use, durability and reliability, this is the best gift that my uncle has given me.
