Great Buy,
This review is from: Philips Avent iQ24 Sterilizer with 2 Bottles, 9 oz (Baby Product)
I bought the Avent Steam Sterilizer to save time and water when cleaning my Avent pump and bottles. I love this product. It only takes about 4 oz. of water and is ready in 6 minutes! I bought mine 4 years ago, so my older model does not have the electronic readout and alarm when ready, and I don't think either is necessary. Mine has a red light that goes off when the steaming is complete. The steamer comes with a basket that can be used in the dishwasher to hold small items. Here is a tip: when I first used my steamer, I had water spots on everything. I called the customer service, and they advised me to try distilled water. This worked like a charm. Apparently I had some ingredient in my well water that was causing the spots. Using distilled water was not costly, since the steamer uses so little water.

We haven't used the product yet for sterilizing any items but we ran the initial cycle and don't have any complaints. It's very fast and doesn't require having to run the dishwasher just to sterilize a few bottles. Also, having to use a microwavable sterilizer really made me uncomfortable because of the uncertainty of cancer-causing agents in microwaved plastic. The price on Amazon is about $30 cheaper than at Babies R Us or Target so if you're considering it, purchase it through Amazon. You won't be let down.
For the skeptics, I'm sure there are other less expensive products that do the same thing but my husband and I are first-time parents and haven't realized the impracticality of many baby items out there.

NO REGRETS! Worth it!!,

This review is from: Philips Avent iQ24 Sterilizer with 2 Bottles, 9 oz (Baby Product)
I was advised by several moms (including my own mother when she found out I spent $90 on a sterilizer!) not to buy a sterilizer, that bottles only truly need to be sterilized before the first time they are used so it's just an unnecessary hassle and expense. This is true in the U.S. (not all countries have a monitored water supply) according to our doctor, provided you have a perfectly healthy child. I was also worried about my twins getting allergies if they aren't exposed to any germs if we're constantly sterilizing everything. I bought it anyways before my twins were born and I do NOT regret buying this item!! My son has very severe acid reflux and a sensitive tummy and his doctor recommended sterilizing the bottles between every use. This has become a life saver!! We use it several times a day, every day, so we've definitely gotten our money out of it!! With twins that were fed expressed breast milk AND formula in two different bottles each feeding (X 2 babies = 4 bottles PER FEEDING), we were going through TONS of bottles every day! We rarely use the caps on our bottles, so instead of putting caps on the top rack, we put 6 more 4oz bottles, for a total of 12 bottles each time. WOW, no other sterilizer will hold that many! My time is extremely valuable with twin infants, so I really appreciate the fact that it takes 2 minutes to load. Very simple to use! I also loved the fact that my Medella breast pump parts fit well on the top shelf. We put toys, pacifiers, sippy cups, baby spoons, medicine dispensers, etc. in this thing! We've been using it for 7 months now and it's still working great for us. I do not use distilled water like many have mentioned, just filtered water and have never had any problems, but I guess it would depend on your water supply where you're at. This is a much safer alternative to cleaning products!

I'm miserable without my sterilizer!,

I am not kidding!
If you are planning to invest in 14+ bottles, you may not need this product. However if you have 7-10 in circulation (like we do) and don't use a dishwaher or fill it up daily, this is wonderful. I have had mine since my son was about 2 weeks old. He's 5 months old now, and we have never had a problem with this sterilizer. Occasionaly I have gone into a panic thinking it was dead, but it's just the plug in the back of the unit. If you unplug it to dump the water and don't push it back in far enough, the device won't power up. Imagine that! Prior to that we either put his bottles in the dishwasher or boiled them on the stove. This works so much better! It is quick and effective, easy to clean and I have gotten it to hold 5 Dr. Brown's bottles (with all their wonderful parts) and two breast pump horns. I express milk with a Medela pump multiple times in a day, and this sterilizer is more cost effective than using microwave steam bags. It is NOT more cost effective than boiling, but it is far less time consuming and sloppy. I left my sterilizer home and went on a week long trip. What a nightmare! If I never see a big pot of water again it will be too soon! And that leads me to my one complaint. This device does not travel well :( We took it with us on a prior (shorter) trip and it is somewhat aggravating to transport. But it was very convienient to be able to sterilize my son's bottles in a hotel room, so the benefit outweighted the annoyance. If you plan to sterilizer everything every use like I do (yup, I am a first time mom!) then this sterlizer is for you! Yes, the microwave steamers are a lot less expensive, but with all the studies of chemicals leeching out of baby bottles, why risk it?

Great product. I wash bottles once a day now. The 24-hour setting keeps bottles sterile for the entire time. Great for sterilizing other items as well, such as pacifiers. It doesn't take up much space at all. No more inconvenient boiling of the bottles. Basically, it just works out really well, and I can't say enough about it. Just a side note, take the instructions advice and use distilled water for sterilizing. It won't build up like tap water will. I usually just by a gallon of it every 3 weeks or so.

We bought this product out of frustration over sterilizing bottles for our 2nd son. Now we wish we had this when our 1st was using bottles. It is a really great product. There is not much to do with it. All you do is stack the bottles (in neat trays that come with it) and turn it on. One thing i would recommend, use distilled water. I read this in another review on Amazon.com, and i think it is a great idea to keep the coil clean. There is not way to clean the heating element, so using distilled water is the only option.

yes this sterilizer heat up very fast and work great but I used it only 2 times and it's stop working. The power is not on and doesn't create steam. I can't return it because I bought it 2 months before my son was born.

If you buy the bit about sterilizing everything that comes in contact with your newborn, this is a great product!!! Large capacity, easy to work, fast sterilization. I use it daily. Most of the other products I bought for the baby suck. This one is worth the money.

Sterilizer,
This review is from: Philips Avent iQ24 Sterilizer with 2 Bottles, 9 oz (Baby Product)
I LOVE IT.
It is easy to use, fast, you can put a lot of stuff inside and you don;t need to use only Avent bottles. With a little bid of imagination you can use any brand nale bottle and nipple. This product is easy to clean, just water and vinager evry 3 months. I love the feature that keeps bottle sterilize for 24 hours, I mean the microwavable one does not do this. I didn't know that sterilize bottles do expiry and this sterilizer tells you when is time to run the cilce again. I strongly recommend this product. |
